Description

' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIs EILLON,: OE BROOKLYN, NEW YOEK.
IMPROVEMENT IN METALLIC SHIRT-BOSOMS.
Specification forming part of LettersPatent No. 49,703, dated September 5, 1865.
' soin; and I do hereby declare that the following is a i'ull and exact description thereof, reference being lhad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in making a shirt-bosom ot'v several strips ot' thin enameled steel and fastening them together in a peculiar manner, which will readily permit their being taken apart and cleansed.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
' 1n the drawings, Figure l represents an enameled iexible steel shirtbosom complete, made up of several sections capable ot' being readily detached from each other, as well as afterward put together. Sectional line a b shows how these strips overlapeach other, as also the corrugations b b in some ot' them. These corrugations are made to represent neat stitching, thus greatly improving the appearance of the article. The strips or sections which the bosom is composed of are securely held together by means of buttons and corresponding holes or slots, there being two of each on most of the sections.
Figs. 2 and 3 show two ot' the outer sections detached. 'These sections are securely held together, prevented from getting apart on the person or otherwise, as follows: At the top part the button c on one section (which enters hole 4o' corresponding to it on another) is permanently attached to its section, and its length is at right angles to the slot, so that the' section having the hole has to be put on over the button, when it is turned at right angles toits position, when the bosom is built up. This is shown by red lines, section A', Fig. 1. Itlnust be .seen-that no working up or down of one section on another canunship itself-that each section must be turned at right angles .to the..
other before they will' come apart. At the lower end a button, d, enters a slot, d', on another section-e'nters the top of the slot byv bending, curving, or springing the section holding the button. The shank ofthe button then slides along the slot to the bottom. The sec. tions are thus locked or secured from displacement in any directionby wear, being readily 'taken apart by hand. Holes e in the upper and lower extremities ot' the collar serve for strings or loops to secure the bosom to the person or clothes.
Having thus described myinvention, what 1 claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
As an article of manufacture, a flexible. en-
ameled shirt-bosom made up of detachable sect-ions easily separated and held together in the manner described, having A longitudinal corrugations, the Whole constructed and Operating substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
