IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTONS FOR BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,558, dated January 25, 1876; application filed February 20, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARGHELAUS OONDELL, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buttons for Boots, &c., of which the following is a specification:
The invention consists in forming a button, ready for attachment to a shoe or gaiter, by connecting an eyelet with the shank in the process of casting, as hereinafter described. In the drawing, Figure l is a plan, and Figs. 2 and 3 sectional views, of the button attached to leather or fabric.
The head of the button has a projection, G, at one side, and a shoulder or flange, F, is formed on the middle portion of shank B. The base or lower end of the shank is enlarged to hold the eyelet D firmly in place. The head and shank of the button are connected with said eyelet in the process of casting, the eyelet being, in such case, supported on the top or rim of the mold. If preferred, it may form the sprue hole, through which to pour the molten metal. The attachment of the button to a fabric is effected by turning down the part of the eyelet which projects above the metal. A wash er or annular re-enforcing plate, G, may be employed when found desirable.
What I claim is The process of forming the improved button by connecting the eyelet D with the tapered shank B in casting, as set forth.
