UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
NOYES F. PALMER, OF JAMAICA, NEW YORK.
BUTTON.
EBPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 327,101, dated September 29, 1885.
Application filed June 29. 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NoYEs F. PALMER, of Jamaica, Queens county, State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Button, of which the following specification a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a button made with a removable cappiece, so that the appearance of the button may be readily changed. The invention is designed more particularly to change a button such as worn on uniforms into an ordinary button; and it consists in the elements ofconstruction hereinafter more fully pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a central section of my improved button, partly in side view. Fig. 2 is a similar section of the cap-piece Fig. 3, a similar section of the head. Fig. 4 is a side view of the shank, and Fig. 5 a central section ofthe nut.
The letter a represents the head of abutton. convex on top and provided with a central screwthreaded aperture extending from face to face. I) is the removable cap. being made in the form of a curved shell, the lower or concave side of which is of less curvature than the convex side of head a. In this way the head and cap are separated, Fig. l, and the (No model.)
covering of the head will not be injured by the cap.
The cap b has a turned-down edge, which embraces the edge of head a. At the center the cap b is provided with a screw-threaded pin, 0, having a conical shoulder,d,at the top. The pin 0 fits into the screwthreaded aperture of head a, the shoulder d preventing the cap from being screwed down too far.
- e is the shank of the button, made with an upper and lower fiangeff, and with screwthreaded pins 9 g, projecting outward from such flanges. The lower pin,g,is embraced by a nut, h.
In use the head a is screwed upon pin 9, while pin 9 is passed through the garment A, and is embraced by nut h. The cap b is screwed upon head a, as already described.
I claim as my invention The combination of cap I), having shoulder d and threaded pin 0, with the perforated tapped head a, and with the doubleflanged shank e, and nut h, substantially as specified.
NOYES F. PALMER.
