COMBINATION BODY-GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 3, 1909.
Application filed August 14, 1908. Serial No. 448,545.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES H. OSBORN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hastings, Barry county, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Body-Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved combination body garment.
The main object of this invention is to provide a combined corset waist or cover, bust and waist extender, which is simple in construction, readily adjusted, and one which is comfortable for the wearer and attractive in appearance.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which,
Figure 1 is a view of a structure embodying the features of my invention adjusted to a figure. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof extended.
In the drawing, similar reference numerals refer to similar parts in both views.
Referring to the drawing, my combination corset waist or cover, waist extender and bust form comprises a back portion 1 having Waist extensions 2 adapted to be brought around under the arms to the front of the wearer, the bottom of the back and waist portions or extensions being at the waist line. The waist portions are preferably connected by means of a waist ta e 3, which is preferably arranged throug a casing, formed therefor by hemming up the bottom to receive the same, so that it may be adjusted as desired. Buttons 4 and loops 5 are preferably provided, it being preferred that the ends of the waist portions shall not be overlapped. The waist portions 2 might, of course, be connected by a lacing, but, as such means will be obvious, they are not here illustrated.
The front portion 6 is adapted to cover the bust portion of the body, the ends extending under the arms of the wearer. The front portion is secured at the back of the wearer j the front portion secured at-the rear.
by means of a waist belt or tape, which is preferably arranged through a suitable cas ing in the lower edge thereof. The front and back portions are connected by the shoulder straps 8. On the upper portion of the front 6 I arrange a bust form, preferably consisting of overlapped ruffles 9, the ruffles being arranged horizontally and preferably extending entirely across the front portion to the front of the arms of the wearer.
My improved corset waist or cover, waist extender and bust form, is especially designed by me to be used as a corset waist or cover over a corset, as 10, although it is very effective and desirable for use without a cor set, and, when adjusted, forms in itself an effective bust form.
In adjusting, the garment is placed over the head of the wearer, the waist portions brought around and secured in the front and As the parts are adjusted independently, they may be drawn up to fit closely and desired tension applied to hold them smoothly in lace.
p A perfectly smooth garment is thus secured, it being possible to take all the fullness out of the lower or waist portion thereof, and, at the same time, the desired fullness is secured in the bust portion through the bust rufiies or extenders, which, when used in connection with a corset, covers the upper edge or end thereof. The front and the back portion passing down over the upper ends of the steels or upper edge of the corset at the back prevents its projecting in an unsightly manner and also covers the shoulder blades. Also, when worn by a very fleshy person, it prevents the bulging of the flesh over the top of the corset at the back. The bust form can, of course, be made as full or as scant as may be desired.
The garment may be quickly put on and adjusted, and, as previously remarked, may be adjusted to fit and suit the requirements of the particular wearer, so that accurate fitting in the construction of the garment is not an essential. The garment is comparatively inexpensive to manufacture, as comparatively little work is required thereon in the matter of cutting and assembling the parts.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An article of wearing apparel comprislli) ing a back portion having waist portions waist portions together at the front of the thereon, means for securing the ends of said waist portions together at the front of the wearer, said means comprising a waist belt or tape, a front portion, a waist belt or tape for securing said front portion at the back of the wearer, shoulder straps connecting said front and waist portions, and a bust form arranged on the upper part of said front portion.
2. An article of wearing apparel comprising a back portion having waist portions thereon, means for securing the ends of said wearer, said means comprising a waist belt 15 or tape, a front portion, a waist belt or tape for securing said front portion at the back of the wearer, and shoulder straps connecting said front and waist portions.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set 20 my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES H. OSBORN.
