WORK-BASKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 13, 1909.
Application filed August 24 1908. Serial No. 450,082.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Fuse 1). MILLER, a citizen of the United States, resident of La Crosse, in the county of La Crosse and State of Wisconsin, have made a certain new and useful Invention in lVorleBaskets; and T de clare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of refer ence marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of my work basket. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the supporting frame with the binder stick lowered at one end. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken through the removable round or slip stick and the binder stick. Fig. {l is a detail vertical cross section of the inner box showing its means of attachment to the frame support.
The invention has relation to work baskets, and it consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, the letter a, designates a supporting cross-frame consisting of two members Z), and 0, each of skeleton character, the member 6, having main side-frame bars 6, Z), and end brace bars or rounds b b and the member 0, having main side-frame bars 0, c, and end brace bars or rounds c 0 the side frame bars 7), Z), and c, 0, having pivotal connection at each side of the' frame at cl, cl, and the member 0, bein considerably longer than the member I), t about one third as long again as shown). At a point on the member 0, of about equal height to the upper brace bar or round 6 of the member I), is provided a round fitting removably in notches 0*, c", of the side frame bars 0, 0, one end of said round being engaged with one notch 0 and the other end sprung into place in the other notch seat 0". A work bag 7", of cloth or other suitable material is suspended in place within the upper portion of the supporting cross-frame, whlch carries staples f, 7, at suitable intervals, the draw cord at the upper portion of the work bag being designed to engage such staples. A backing piece g, of cloth or the like is provided for the portion of the frame member 0, extending above the member 6, said backing being formed with upper and lower hems or seats 9, g, the upper of which engages the uppermost round 0 and the lower of which is engaged with the removable round or slip stick 0, whereby the backing piece may be readily secured in place and slack therein taken up.
In order to prevent the side frame bars 0, c", from springing outward at the center to release the removable round or slip stick 6, a binder stick h, is provided which overlies the slip stick and extends at its ends past such stick, lapping over the side frame bars 0, c, to which it is fastened by end screws h, h. This binder stick h, is usually provided with upright pins 2', 2', of varying lengths for purpose of holding spools of cotton, sewing silk, etc., as shown.
The uppermost round or end brace 0 is provided with hook attachments c 0 for purpose of suspension of scissors, etc., as shown. Hooks j, j, on the side bars 0, c, are used for thimbles. An inner box is, extending transversely of the frame at the rear thereof and lying within the work bag is detachably suspended in position.
The whole device may be closed up and carried in compact form from place to place at will, and forms an ornamental device for the purpose, of simple and complete charactor.
The box 70, has slots 70, at the rear thereof, screw eyes 76 in engagement with the frame member 0, being passed through such slots and the heads or eyes thereof turned at an angle to the slots. When the box is to be removed the screw eyes are turned half around, when the eyes or heads thereof will be in position to again pass through the slots.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A work basket having a supporting foldable cross-frame composed of two members having pivotal connection, one of said members being longer than the other, a collapsible bag or basket located within the upper portion of said cross-frame, and a backing piece for the up aermost portion of the long member of the frame.
2. A work basket composed of a supporting foldable crossframe having two members provided with a pivotal connection, and end brace rounds, one of said members being longer than the other, a collapsible bag or basket within said frame, a backing piece for the uppermost portion of the longer member of the frame, and an intermediate removable brace round for the longer frame member having detachable engagement with the lower edge portion of said backing piece.
3. A work basket composed of a supporting foldable crossframe having two members provided with a pivotal connection and end brace rounds, one of said members being longer than the other, a collapsible bag or basket within said frame, a backing piece for the upper portion of the longer frame member, an intermediate brace round having detachable engagement with notches in the side frame bars of the longer member, and a binder strip overlying said intermediate round and having end screw connection with the side frame bars of the longer member, said intermediate round having detachable engagement with the lower edge portion of said backing piece.
4. A work basket composed of a supporting foldable cross-frame having two me1n bers provided with a pivotal connection and end brace rounds, one of said. members being longer than the other, a collapsible bag or basket within said frame, a backing piece for the upper portion of the longer frame member, an intermediate brace round having detachable engagement with notches in the side frame bars of the longer member, a binder strip overlying said intermediate round and having end screw connection with the side frame bars of the longer member, a narrow transverse box suspended at the rear of the collapsible bag or basket and within the same, said intermediate round having detachable engagement with the lower edge portion of the backing piece.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
