FEED-BAG AND HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN QUINCY ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Westmont, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feed-Bags and Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in feed bags and holders.

One object of the invention is to provide an improved construction of feed bag having means whereby the same may be closed when not in use thus permitting the bag to be used for holding or carrying the feed without danger of the latter being spilt out and wasted.

Another object is to provide an improved means for attaching the bags to the tongue of a vehicle whereby the same are supported and held in position for a team of horses to feed therefrom.

IVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention applied to the end of a vehicle tongue; Fig. 2 is a similar view of one of the feed bags showing the same in an open position; Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the same closed and fastened; Fig. 4 is a similar view of the hinged frame of the bag; Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the bag attaching and supporting frame.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 denotes the bag supporting and attaching frame which is here shown in double form for supporting two bags in position to permit two horses to feed therefrom. The frame 1 is constructed from a single wire rod bent to form two rectangular frames 2. The ends 3 of the rod in forming the inner sides of the frames are brought together and secured adjacent to the outer ends of the frames by a binding wire 4. the rod pass below the rear bar of the frames and are bent laterally to a slight extent to form tongue engaging members. The extremities of the ends 3 are bent into the form of hooks 5 which are adapted to be engaged with eyes 6 arranged on the opposite sides of the tongue of the vehicle as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.

The feed bags comprise rectangular frames 7 formed in folding sections. the sections are bent to form eyes 8 which are engaged with each other thus hingedly connecting the sections whereby they may be folded together to close the bag. On the opposite sides of the frames 7 are formed inwardly projecting hooks 9 which when the frames are in open position are adapted to be slipped into engagement with the front and rear bars of the supporting frames 2 shown in Fig. 1, thereby detachably fastening the bag frames 7 to the supporting frames 2.

The bodies 10 of the bags may be formed of any suitable material and constructed in any suitable manner. The bag bodies 10 are secured to the frames 7 in any suitable manner but preferably have their upper edges brought around and sewed or otherwise secured to the frames as shown.

By constructing the bags as herein shown and described they may be readily engaged with and removed from the supporting frames when in an open position and when removed from the frame 2 may be closed and fastened in a closed position by short cords 11 which are tied together thus fastening the closed ends of the bags. The cords 11 are also employed to fasten the bags in position on the supporting frame as shown.
