SPOOL-BOX.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 559,364, dated May 5, 1896. Application nea october 25,1895. serial No. 566,928. (No man.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHRIST OHRIsTENsEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spool and Thimble Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention is an improved appliance for holding sewing material, such as spoolcotton, silk, thimble, needle, and the like.

The object of the invention is to provide a cheap and simple contrivance of the class described, and one which can be attached to a sewing machine, table, lapboard, or other object.

With this object in view my invention consists in the details of construction and combination of parts, all of which will be fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, forming a part of this speci iication, Figure l is a perspective View of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing the sides folded down in dotted lines.

In carrying out my invention I employ a box-like structure A, having a bottom or base a, a central partition a', ends a2, all of which are fixed, and hinged sides a3 a3, said sides being normally held closed by means of elastic straps or bands a4 a4, attached to the ends of said sides and to the end pieces of the box. The sides a3 o? are so hinged to the bottom of the box that they may be turned down, as indicated in Fig. 2, so as to form a support for the box and hold it elevated. A series of pins B B are secured upon opposite sides of the central partition and upon said pins are held the spools C C, said spools being prevented from becoming displaced by means of the hinged sides a3 a3. A needle-case D is also arranged in one corner of the box.

Now when it is desired to place a spool or thimble in the holder one side is turned down and the spool or thimble placed on the pin. The side is then allowed to spring back and the spool will be held in place.

When not in use, the holder can be turned face downward and protect the spool from dust and dirt. In one or both ends of the box may be provided holes d, through which the cotton may be passed, so that it may be more accessible to the user.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- A spool and thimble holder comprising a box having abottom, end pieces and a centrally-arranged partition secured to said end pieces and carrying spool-pins, side pieces hinged to said bottom and adapted to open outwardly and downwardly to forma support for said box, and an elastic strip connected to each of said side pieces and extending across one end of the box, substantially as described.
