WILLIAM F. HARBOUR AND GEORGE A. KELLOGG, OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA.
OVERALLS.
Speeication of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 15, 1908.
Patented June 15, 1909.
Serial N0. 457,821.
T o all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM F. HAR- Bonn and Gnonen A. KELLOGG, both citizens of the United States, and residents of Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful 1mprovements in Overalls, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to overalls intended to be worn by workmen, mechanics and others, as a protection for the ordinary clothes, and more particularly to overalls having legs, a waistband, Suspenders secured at the front and the back of the waistband, and an apron secured at the waist band and adapted to be positioned within the overalls and concealed, or to be arranged above the waistband in a normal position and attached to the Suspenders at points remote from the oints of attachment of the Suspenders at the front of the waistband.
The object of the invention is to provide Simple, inexpensive and easily manufactured overalls, having aprons which can be positioned within the overalls so that the latter become similar to ordinary trousers, and in which the apron can be operatively positioned and attached to the Suspenders.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly Set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this Specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding l.parts in both the views, and in which* Figure l a front elevation of an embodiment of our invention showing the apron operatively positioned and secured to the Suspenders; and Fig. 2 is a similar view showing in dotted outline the apron concealed within the overalls.
Before proceeding to a more detailed description of our invention, it should be clearly understood that in providing an apron which can be secured to the Suspenders at points remote from the attachment of the Suspenders to the waistband, a better support is provided for the overalls, as it is preferable to secure the Suspenders entirely at the waistband rather than partly at the waistband and partly at the top of the apron as is the case in the ordinary overalls. Furthermore, in our overalls it is possible to position the apron within the same, where it is concealed, and thus the overalls resemble an ordinary pair of trousers. rlhe garment may be fashioned from any suitable material customarily employed for the purpose, and the details can be varied in accordance with individual preference or special conditions, without departing from the underlying spirit of our invention.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, we provide overalls having trousers or legs 1() ol suitable form and provided with a waistband 1l. Suspenders 12 having the rear portions crossed and secured to the waist band at the back of the overalls, and having the front portions secured at the ends to the front of the waistband, serve as a means of supporting the overalls when the latter are worn. The Suspenders can be attached to the waistband in any convenient manner, for example, removably by means of buttons 13.
le provide an apron 14, which is sewed or otherwise attached at the front of the waistband and can be folded into position within the overalls, as is shown most clearly in Fig. 2. The apron is upwardly tapered and at the upper corners has lateral extensions 15 which can be secured in any convenient manner to the Suspenders, for example, by means of buttons 16 and catches 17, the latter being attached to the Suspenders and being formed to engage the buttons which are secured upon the extensions.
The apron is normally behind the suspenders and the extension can be positioned at the front of the Suspenders when the apron is operatively positioned, as is shown most clearly in Fig. 1. lf So desired, the waist band can be dispensed with, and the Suspenders and apron can then be secured directly at the edge of the waist portion of the overalls.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. Overalls, having a waist portion, suspenders secured to said waist portion at the front and the back thereof, and an apron secured to said waist portion inside of said suspenders whereby it is adapted to be folded into position within the overalls, and having means, whereby, when it is arranged above the waist portion it can be removably secured to said Suspenders at a point remote from the points ol' attachment of said Suspenders to the front of said Waist portion.
2'. Overalls, having a waist portion, suspenders secured to Said waist portion at. the
front thereof, an apron secured to said waist portion inside of said Suspenders whereby it is adapted to be folded into position within the overalls, said apron also being' adapted to be operativelyT arranged above said waist portion, and catches for removablgT securing said apron at the upper corners to said Suspenders at peints remote from the points of attachnient of said Suspenders to said waist portion.
3. Overalls, having a waist portion, suspenders secured to said waist portion at the back and the front thereof, an apron secured to said waist portion and adapted to be folded into position within the overalls and to be operativelT arranged above the waist portion, said apron being arranged at the inside of said Suspenders and having at the upper corners extensions adapted to be positioned at the outside of said Suspenders, and means for securing said extensions to said Suspenders at points remote from the points of attachment of said Suspenders to said waist portion.
4. Overalls having ra waist portion, an apron secured 'to said waist portion at the front thereof, and suspenders secured to said waist portion at the back and at the front there-V of, said suspen ders comprising` at the front spaced members, said apron adjacent to said waist portion being` of greater width than the distance between said suspender members, said apron at a point remote from said waist portion being of less width than the distance between said suspender members.
5. Overalls having a waist portion, an apron secured to said waist portion at the front thereof, and Suspenders secured to said waist portion at the outside of said apron whereby said apron can be folded into position within the overalls, said apron being upwardly tapered, and being cut in at the sides whereby .the corners of said apron remote from said waist portion can be disposed at the outside of said suspender-s.
In testimongT whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
