GARMENT-SUPPORTER.

. State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Supporters, of which the following is a specilication.

This invention relates to improvements in garment supporters. Its organization comprises a frame with spring pinching jaws and sides with rentering angles, by virtue of which latter a band and its hook can be engaged with the frame without danger of dislodgment. The frame may be made of any suitable material such as wire, stamped metal and the like, the exemplication shown in the accompanying drawings being wire.

Figure 1 represents the supporter holding a stocking in place, Fig. 2 shows an enlarged elevation of the frame of the invention, partly in section, Fig. 3 is an enlarged elevation of a modiiication of the frame, Fig. 4 represents a front view of a hook, and Fig. 5 shows a. top view of Fig. 4, Fig. 6 shows an enlarged partial section of Fig. 1 on the line 6, 6, Figs. 7, 8 and 9 represent further modifications of the frame. i

The frame of the garment supporter is designated by the numeral 2O with the spring pinching jaws 21, which diverge. at their upper ends and join with a loop of the frame. The said loop comprises the sides 22, 23 which are preferably inclined, although they may be parallel to each other.

The sides 22, 23 are connected with the jaws 21, by means of the rentering angles or diverging and inclined portions 24, which latter constitute shoulders for and form with the sides 22, 23 the angles or pockets 25. A depressed top connecting bar 26 connects the upper ends of the sides 22, 23 and forms therewith the shoulders 27 and angles or pockets 28.

The ends of the wire constituting the frame come together in the side 22, and are covered by the sleeve 30. It will be evident that the said ends of the wire might be located at any other portion of the frame, and that they may be joined in any suitable manner.

Over the sleeve 30 is secured a band 35, and at the other end of the band is located the adjusting slide 36. In a loop 37 formed in the band with said adjusting slide, is

secured a hook 40 with the body portions 41 having the ends 43, to the rear of the front end of the hook and the bow shaped tongue 42. The width of said tongue 42 as well as the band 35 are each a little less than the distance between the pockets and 2S of the frame of the supporter.

In Fig. 6 it will be noted that the end 3S of the loop 37 encircles the body portions 41 of the hook 40. The said end 38 with the body portions 41 provide an abutting shoulder for the side 23 of the loop of the supporter, when the hook and frame are in engagement, and prevents the dislodgment of the hoolr from the frame unless the user forces the tongue 42 over the side 23, which can be accomplished on account of the yielding of the material of the band, when the loop is forced over the side 23.

In Fig. 3 the invention is modified in the means employed to secure the ends of the wire used to constitute the frame of the supporter. rFhe frame constructed according to this modilication is indicated by with the spring pinching jaws 51 similar to 21, sides 52 similar to 22, 23 which latter terminate in the twistedv ends 53.

In Fig. 7 the frame 54 of the garment supporter has the jaws 55, similar to 21, and a loop having the sides 56, 57. The side 57 is formed of the parallel ends 5S, 59 which may be soldered together, covered with a binder, or may be employed without either.

In Fig. S is represented a frame 60 of a garment supporter, comprising the pinching jaws 61 similar to 21, which are joined with a loop having sides 62 by the shoulder 63 and pockets 64 similar to 24, 25. A straight top connecting bar 65 joins the upper ends of the sides 62. rlhe ends of the wire constituting the frame 60 are brazed, soldered or welded together in any portion thereof, and preferably in one of the sides of 62.

In Fig. 9 is represented the frame 70 of the garment supporter comprising the pinching jaws 71 similar to 21, which are joined with a loop having the parallel sides 72, the shoulders 73 and pockets 74 similar to 24 and 25. A straight top connecting bar 75 joins the upper ends of the sides 72. The ends of the wire constituting the frame are joined by being brazed, soldered or welded.

To use the invention the band 35 is placed in position as shown and the garment, in the present case a stocking is clamped between the spring pinching jaws 21 to hold I ing the sides yof the loop and said jaws, a 3() the same in place and the tongue L2 is engaged with the side 28 of the frame. y

The shoulders 24, 27 on one side of the loop prevent the band 35 becoming dislocated from its proper position in the frame, such as either creeping to the depressed top 26 or on to its adjacent spring pinching jaw 21, and the shoulders on the other side prevent similar dislocation of the tongue 42.

Having described my invention, I claim: l. ln a garment supporter the combination of spring pinchi-ng jaws, said jaws being extended to forni a loop, shoulders joining the jaws and the sides of the loop, a band Connected with one side of the loop and a hook on the band engaging the other side of the loop.

2. In a garment supporter the combination of diverging pinching aws, said aws being extended to form a loop, shoulders between the sides of the loop and said jaws, a depressed top member of the loop connecting the upper ends of said sides and shoulders for the said sides formed in the vdepressed top member and a hook having a tongue to engage a side of the loop.

3. In a garment supporter the combination of pinching jaws, a loop, shoulders joindepressed top member of the loop connecting the upper ends of the said sides and shoulders for the said sides formed in said depressed -top member, a band Connected with one of the sides of the loop and held in proper position by the shoulders adjacent thereto, and a hook on said band engaging the other side of rthe loop and held in proper position by the shoulders adjacent thereto,

In a garment supporter the lcombination of spring lpinching jaws, said jaws being extended `to fonm a loop, a hook adapted to engage yone of the sides of the loop, a tongue for said lioolr, a body portion for said tongue with its ends to the rear of the front vend of the hook, and a band around the said .body portion and ends of the hook forming an abutting' shoulder when 4one of the sides of the loop is engaged with said hook.
