To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELAN GHARD L. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resi dent of Yazoo City, in the county of Yazoo and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and Improved Bridle and Throat-Latch Snap, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The more particular object of the inven; tion is to provide a device which may be applied to throat-latch straps, to slide thereon and snap into engagement with said straps, to more quickly and conveniently secure the latter in the adjusted position 011 the horses head, without the use of the ordinary buckle.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specifi cation, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure l is broken perspective view of a bridle embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the improved snap, on a larger scale; and Fig. 3 is a front elevation of said snap.

I have illustrated my improved snap as applied to a bridle modified as to the throatlatch, this being the most advantageous use of said device. This particular embodiment of the invention as illustrated will be described in detail and the invention will be defined in the claims.

In carrying out my invention in connection with a bridle, the head-band A, browband B, and the cheek-straps C of the bridle may be 'of the ordinary form, and the throatlatch D, instead of having a buckle as is ordinary, has applied thereto a sliding snap E of special construction, as hereinafter more fully explained, and the ends of the throat-latch below said snap are then preferably permanently united, and in the in stance shown the uniting of the ends is effected by securing an ornamental end piece of leather thereto, as shown at (Z.

The snap E is provided at its ends with closed loops 6, that is, the walls of the loops are continuous except for an aperture 6 in the inner wall of each loop, and within the hollow body, blocks F have guided move ment, the outer ends of the blocks extending into and through slots 6 the outer ends of the blocks being provided with finger grips f. On the outer face of each block a proj ecting stud f is formed, which extends outward through and beyond the apertures 6.

Within the hollow body E a spring G, preferably a coil spring, is arranged so that its ends abut against the backs of the sliding blocks F. lVith this construction the snap E is placed 011 the throat-latch so that the opposite sides of the throat-latch extend through the loops 6 and with the projecting studs f entering opposite holes (6 in the throat-latch, whereby the studs clutch the opposite sides of the throat-latch and hold the snap in the adjusted position.

By taking hold of the finger grips f the snap may he slid up or down. Then in the lower position the bridle may be slid readily over the horses head, and the snap E can then be quickly raised, and upon releasing the finger grips f at the proper point, the snap will engage the sides of the throatlatch, holding the latter with the proper snugness around the horses throat.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A bridle having a throat latch, the members of which are of equal length and have their ends permanently secured together, and a fastener for the throat latch comprising an elongated tubular and slotted body having an integral closed loop at each end, through which the members of the throat latch loosely pass and spring pressed studs mounted in the body and projecting into the loops and engaging the members of the throat latch, said studs each having a handle projecting through a slot of the body.

2. A bridle having a throat latch, the members of which are approximately of equal length and a fastener for the throat latch, comprising an elongated body having an integral closed loop at each end through which the members of the throat latch loosely pass, and spring pressed studs carried by the body and projecting into the loops and engaging the members of the throat latch, said studs being each provided with a handle for operating it.

3. A bridle having the members of its throat latch secured together, and a sliding snap on the throat latch, said snap comprising an elongated body having at each end an elongated closed loop receiving the throat latch, and sliding and spring pressed members carried by the body and having studs projecting into the loops and engaging the throat latch, said members being each pro vided with a handle.
