FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. March 8, 1907.
Patented Feb. 1l, 19M).
Serial No. 361,255.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUY JONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Westplains, in the county of Howell and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a harness fastener and more especially to a fastener for use upon collars.
rllhe fastener consists of two parts, one of which is secured to the collar and the other of which is secured to a strap and is locked to the member carried by the collar.
The invention consists in the novel construction oii these parts as hereinafter described, pointed out in the claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the fastener in position upon a collar, a portion of which is shown in outline. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the fastener with straps at tached. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the fastener' and straps. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the member fixed to the collar. l
In constructing this collar fastening device, I employ a plate A which is secured to one end portion of the collar and which carries midway its ends a staple A. The other member consists of a plate B trapezoidal in outline and the body of the plate is provided with three parallel openings, or slots C, D and E.
The end piece of the member B, is provided with a pin E which projects into the slot E, and extendspart way across said slot. A web F separating the slot C from the slot D carries also a headed pin F which projects into the slot D. Both the pin E and the pin F are on the line of the longitudinal aXis of the member B. A strap G has one end passed through the slot C and the strap is bent back upon itself and secured by a suitable rivet, so that the narrow portion of the member B, is formed in a loop of the strap G.
A strap I-I is provided with a row of per- :torations H and passed loosely through the slot E and the pin E is drawn into engagement with one of the perforations H. The fastener is locked in place by slipping the slot D over the staple A and engaging the said staple with the headed pin F. The strap H can then be drawn by engaging the pin E with the nearest opening Il when the desired degree of tension has been obtained. The member B can be readily disengaged from the member A by pressing the strap G and the narrow portion of the member B downwardly to disengage the head ot the pin from the bow portion of the staple A, then drawing the head of the pin through the staple, and lifting upwardly.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure' by Letters Patent, is
In a fastener, a plate having transversely arranged slots, oppositely arranged pins carried by said plate and projecting toward each other on the central longitudinal line of said plate, a strap secured to an end of said plate, a second strap detachably secured to the opposite end of the plate and in posiw tion t0 engage one of'u said pins, and a plate secured to a collar and having an upwardly projecting staple, said staple being adapted to enter a slot of said iirst mentioned plate and to engage the remaining pin.
GUY JONES.
