WRISTLET.
No. 911, 78o.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 9, 1909.
Application filed Apri1 16, 1908. Serial N o. 427,340.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT N. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Shenandoah, in the county of Page and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVristlets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in wristlets, and consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings forming a part hereof Figure 1 is a back view of the ime provement in place. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the' improvement open. Fig. 3 is a section Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2, and, Fig. 5 is a section on the same line showing a modified form of connecting the buckle.
The wristlet comprises a body portion A, composed of an approximately rectangular sheet of flexible material such as leather, and the said sheet is provided at one end near each side thereof with a series of four'parallel slits, a., a', a2, a3, and straps are connected with the sheet by means of the slits.
The straps B are widened at one end as at l), and slitted as at t', and the straps are connected with the sheet by passing the point b3 of the strap through the slit a, in one direetion, through the slit a in the opposite direction, and through the slit b in the widened end of the strap, after which the free end of the strap is passed under that portion of the sheet between the slits a2, o3, the said portion acting as a loop for the strap.
Near the opposite end of the sheet, and in alinement with the sides of the strap B, the Y sheet is provided with pairs of parallel slits, a4, af', which are connected at their inner end as at a, and that portion C of the sheet between the slits, is turned outwardly upon the sheet as at c, and backwardly upon itself as at c', a buckle D having its cross bar engaged in the loop formedby the turning back of the portion upon itself, and a rivet E traverses the doubled portion for securing the folds together with the buckle in place.
In Fig. 5, the portion C is turned outwardly on the strap as at c2, and backwardly on the opposite side of the sheet as at c3, the buckle D being inserted in the loop as before, and a rivet E traversing the looped portion. The straps B are of a length sufficient to pass entirely aroundv the wrist when in place, and
extend from their point of connection beneath the adjacent end of the sheet and out through the opening formed by the turning back of the portion C, thence around the outer surface of the wristlet to engagement with the buckle.
It will be evident from the description, that the rivets are prevented from contact with the skin of the wearer, by the straps B which pass thereunder. In addition only one rivet is needed for each of the portions,
vand no additional material is required for attaching the buckles.
I claim:
1. A wristlet of flexible material having at each side of one end a series of four parallel slits, straps having one end widened and transversely slitted passing through the in-` ner-most slit in one direction, and in the opposite direction through the next slit, and
through the slit in the widened end, the pormost slit of each series in one direction, and' in the opposite direction through the next slit and through the slit in its widened end, the portion between the outer-most slits forming a loo through which the straps pass, and buck es connected with the opposite end of the wristlet for engagement by the straps.
8. A wristlet of flexible material, having at one end apair of spaced straps, the opposite end of the strap at each corner being prolvided with a pair of parallel longitudinal slits, connected at their inner end, the portion between the slits being doubled upon itself tol form a loop, a rivet traversing the doubled portion and the sheet, and a buckle in the loop.
