BELT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. all, 1.920.
Application filed January 1G, 1917. Serial No. 142,715.
To all w/Lom t may concern:
Be it known that l, CARL 0. BAKKE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Fertile, in the county of Polk and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belts, of which the following is a specification.
he present invention relates to the class of garment supporters and has particular reference to new and useful improvements in a belt.
rihc primary object of my invention is to provide a belt of the class described having means associated therewith, permitting the belt to be fastened loosely about the waist of the wearer and yet prevent the same from slipping down.
another object of my invention is to provide a belt of the class mentioned having means associated therewith causing -the belt to fit snugly about the hips of the wearer.
Other improvements and novel details iny the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the apparatus will be brought out more in detail in the description to follow, which, for a clear understanding of the invention, should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, and wherein is disclosed, for the purpose of illustration, convenient and satisfactory embodiments of the invention. lt is to be noted, in this connection, that minor changes in the construction and arrangements of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the principle of operation.
in the drawing:
lThe figure is a perspective View of a belt with my invention applied.
Referring new more particularly to the drawing, wherein like reference characters designate correspon-ding parts throughout the view thereof, l is the body of a flexible belt member having a common form of buckle 2 associated with one end thereof provided with the common form of tongue adapted to engage the apertures 3 formed in the opposite end.
Strips of spring metal 4t are provided on thebelt member adjacent the portion thereof adapted to engage the hips of the wearer for a purpose which will hereinafter be described. These metallic strip members are resilient and are detachably secured to the said belt by means of the rivets or ot ier common fastening means 5. By securing these strips rigidly to the belt member it is obvious that they will retain the desired position and cause the belt to snugly engage the hips of the wearer.
ln the common form of belts now in use if the same is fastened loosely about the hips of the wearer it will have a tendency to drop, while in the belt herein provided the spring plate will prevent this annoyance. lt is also to be noted the strip will form a reinforcing means and also a brace for the sides of the wearer.
F rom the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it can be easily seen that I have provided a belt that is simple in construction, the cost of production small and efficiency and operation high.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and-desire to secure by Letters Patent is A belt structure, comprising a flexible band, spring strips, each of uniform width throughout its length less than the width of the band and disposed longitudinally of the same at an equal distance from its edges, and means for securing the opposite extremities of each strip on the outer side of said band, said strips being adapted to be arranged adjacent to and embracing the hips of a wearer of the band when passed about the body of said wearer, the band being adapted at the edges thereof on opposite sides of the strips to curl outwardly over the edges of said strips to protect the hips from the edges of said strips.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature hereto.
CARL O. BAKKE.
