Description

No. 600,331. Patented Mar. 8,1m.
UNirn STATES WILLIAM LANZ, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BELT..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 600,331, dated March 8, 1898.
Application filed July 3, 1897- Seral No. 643135Z. (No model.) l
To all whom, t 11m/,U concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM LANZ, a citizen of the United States, residing in Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Irnprovements in Belts, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to belts such as are commonly worn by ladies, and has for its object to provide a belt which may be readily reversed, so that by making one side of the belt of one color and the other side of another color the wearer may be able to suit the color of the belt to the rest of her attire and make a single belt do the service of two.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a partial View' of the inner side of the belt. edge view of part of the belt. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the buckle. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of one end of the strap. Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing the position of the strap and buckle during a part of the operation of securing them together.
Referring to the drawings, a indicates the strap, and h indicates the buckle.
c indicates the tongue of the buckle.
As shown in Figs. 3 and 5, the strap a is provided with a slot or perforation d near the end to which the buckle is attached, and with two loops e and f, said loops being arranged at opposite sides of the strap, as shown. As indicated in the drawings, the two sides of the strap are of different colors, and the loops e fare also of diiierent colors, the color of each loop corresponding to that of the side Fig. 3 is an of the strap opposite to the side across which it extends. The buckle is secured to the strap by slipping the strap through it and passing the tongue c through the slot d. The end of the strap adjacent to the buckle is then bent back and the free end of the strap is passed through the loop, causing the parts to assume the position shown in Fig. 3. The loop which is not in use will then be at the back or inner side of the strap, and with the arrangenient of loops shown and described the loop of the color which corresponds to the outer side of the strap will be outermost.
In order to reverse the belt, all that it is necessary to do is to release the buckle and after reversing the strap to replace the buckle in the manner above described. The outer loop serves to confine the free end of the strap when the belt is in use, as shown in Fig. l.
That which I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A belt having both of its faces iinished and provided near one end with a slot and between said slot and the adjacent end of the belt with loops, said loops lying respectively one upon each face of the belt, and a buckle having a tongue, said buckle being adapted to be secured within a fold of the belt with its tongue passing through the slot, the fold being formed by passing the opposite end of the belt through one of the loops, as set forth.
IVILLIAM LANZ.
