Description

nitrd States;
@anni @wird Lenm Patent No. 90,785, dated June 1, 1869.
IMPRQVED STOvE-PIPE SHELF.
The Schedule :eferredto in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.4
To all to 'whom these presents shall come Be it known that '1, DBED RUGGLEs, of Franklin, in the county of Norfolk, and State of Massachusetts, have made an invention of a new and useful Portable Bracket or Shelf for Cooking-Stoves; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionlthereof, due reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this-specification, and in. which- Figure 1 is a perspective view,
Figure 2, a vertical section, and
Figure 3, an elevation of a device containing my invention, as applied to a portion of a vertical stovefunnel.
Figure 4 is a perspective View of my invention, as applied to a stovefnnnel in a horizontal position.
Figure 5 is an elevation of the same.
The device herein referred to and explained is intended as a useful auxiliary to a cooking-stove during the process of cookingfand provides a safe and convenient place of deposit for dishes of various kinds, in
order that the heat radiator from the 'stove shall retain them, and the viands contained in them, in a hot state, until wanted, the device being, further, useful for steeping decoctions, and for numerous other purposes, which will readily manifest themselves to cooks and housekeepers.
'lhe invention consists in the employment of a reveisible shelf, in combination with a slotted bracket,
provided with thumb-screws, for confining it to a stovefunnel, such bracket, by partially clasping the circumference, and resting against one side of the funnel, serving to maintain the shelf, which is screwed to it, in a horizontal position, the bracket being provided with additional means of enabling the shelf to be reversed, in order to adapt it either to a perpendicular or horizontal funnel, the whole being as hereinafter explained. Y
In the drawings before mentioned as accompanying this specification, and which illustrate my invention- A denotes-a portion of an upright stove-funnel, in immediate proximity to the stove.
B, in the drawings, denotes a bracket, the upper horizontal shelf, F, of which is prolonged into arms, G C', which extend upon opposite sides of the funnel, and so as to include between them more than one-half, or a greater portion of such funnel, a thumb-screw, D or D', being screwed through such arms, and against opposite sides of the funnel, and 'to the rear of the centre thereof.
By the employment of the arms C O and screws D i with and atright angles to the upper surface of the bracket. f G G, inthe drawings, denote two ears or lugs, depending from the front edge of the bracket, at right angles thereto, for the purpose to be explained.
H denotes a shelf of any suitable size and form, such shelf being disposed upon the upper surface of the bracket, and secured thereto by screws, -as'repief sented, the under surface 'of the shelf being provided with a depending brace, I, for supporting the shelf in position when reversed, as hereinafter referred to.
The above description explains my invention as applied to a perpendicular pipe.-
To adapt the shelf H to a horizontal pipe, (in which case the outer edge, J, of the shelf o'f the bracket becomes lxorizontal,) the shelf is reversed, and placed upon this outer edge, J, and screwed to the ears G G, before mentioned, the depending, brace or foot I, before mentioned, serving as a lleg, to steady and support the shelf. This arrangement of parts is shown in gs. 4 and 5 of the drawings.
' The invention above described is simple, cheap of production, and expeditiously applied, `and forms a very useful adjunct to a kitchen.
By means of the set-screws andthe form of the bracket, the whole device may be clamped to any portion of a funnel with little labor, and in a momentsv time.
I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by p Letters Patent of the United States- A portable warming-shelf for stoves, composed of the furcated bracket B, provided with the set-screws D D, and formed -wth the double bearing-surfaces F and J andthe ears G Gin combination with the shelf E, the whole being so made and combined as to be adapted to perpendicular or horizontal pipes, in manner and for the purpose as before explained.
OBED RUGGLES.
