Be it known that I, ALEXANDER S. Coornn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cookeville, in the county of Putnam and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grate Trivets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in-.

vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to trivets and especially to open fire grate trivets.

The object of the invention is the provi sion of a device of this character which may be used for several different purposes, which may be easily and readily applied to the grate structure and which can be produced at a comparatively low cost.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a table carried by. the trivet which may be adjusted so as to be used for supporting a cooking table, or may be turned vertically and used as a shield to prevent sooting of sadirons.

With these and other objects in view, the

invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrange ment of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a top plan view, Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view on the line a:x of Fig. 1 showing a device secured to the grate with the table shown in position to receive a cooking utensil, Fig. 3 is a similar section showing the table used as a shield, and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section on the line y of Fig. 2.

Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 represents the grate to which the trivet is adjustably attached, as will be hereinafter described. This trivet comprises a pair of V-shaped supporting members 2 having their vertical and diagonal arms connected as at 3, and both connected together at the outer end of the diagonal arms by a supporting bar 4. The upper end of the vertical arms 2 is slotted to receive the forwardly projecting hooks 5, which are adapted to engage over the edge of the grate as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and be held in adjusted position by the set screws 6. The bottom or jointed end of the arms is connected by a trough 7, whichis provided with a vertical flange 8, and with the overhanging right angular lips 9, secured to the arms 2 by bolts 10. Projecting inwardly from a point adjacent the top end of each of the vertical arms of the members 2 is a stud 12, which is adapted to engage the slot 13, formed in the right angle lar flanges 14, of the table 15. These studs 12 support the forward end of the table and the rear end thereof rests upon the connect ing bar 4, and is held from vertical movement by a depending longitudinal flange 16.

When it is desired to use the device for the support of cooking utensils the table is urned in the positi n shown in Fig. 2 where the front end is'supported upon the studs and the rear end upon the connecting bar 4. When it is desired to use the device for heating sadirons the rear end of the table is raised to free the flange 16 thereof from the bar 4 and the rear of the table moves on the arc of 'It is then dropped down so that itsforward edge engages in the trough adjacent the flange 8, as shown in Fig. 3.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiringa more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claims.

I claim 1. In a gratetrivet, the combination of a pair of V-shaped supporting members, a table adjust-ably supported on opposite legs of said members and a shelf carried upon the supporting members below the table and adapted to support the table when the table is in vertical position.

2. A grate trivet comprising a pair of V- port the table when the table is in vertical position.

4. In a grate trivet a pair of V-shaped connected members, means for adj ustably securing said members to the grate frame, a table adjustably connected to one of the legs of each member, a table supporting bar connected to the opposite leg of each member and adapted to normally support the table, and a trough shaped shelf carried by the members below the table and adapted to support the table when the table is in vertical position.

5. In a grate trivet a pair of \l-shaped members, hook bolts slidably engaging therewith for adjustably connecting the members to a grate frame, a table adjustably secured to the vertical leg of each of said members, said table being free to swing in any direction or to slide upon its connection, a table supporting bar connected to the diverging leg of each member and adapted to normally support the table, a trough shaped shelf connected to the apex of each member below the table, and a limiting lug on said shelf and t.'.

6. In a grate trivet, the combination with a pair of supporting members, of a table pivotally and adjustably carried thereon, a shelf carried upon the supporting members below the table, and means for holding the table in vertical position resting upon the shelf.

7. In a grate trivet, the combination of a pair of connected V-shaped supporting members, a pivoted reciprocal supporting device, means for holding said device in position to support cooking utensils, and means to hold said device in vertical position to act as a shield.
