Description

tanica- (sma y' W. CA/NEDY, OF WAUCONDA, ILLINOIS.
Letters PatentNo. 91,519, dated June 22, 1869.
IMPRQYED STVE-PIPE SHELF AND DRIER.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the name.
To all whom 'it ma/y Aconcern Be it known that I, W.- E. CANEDY, of Wauconda,
in the county of Lake, and State of Illinois,- have invented a Combined Shelf, Fruit-Drier, and Olot-hes- Drier; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionrthereof, whichjwill enable others skilled in the artto make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawhings, andletters marked thereon, `making a part of,v this description, in l which- Figure lis a perspective representation of my invention.
lFigure 2, a broken view of the under side, showing Vthe folding leaf, and the manner in 'which it is held in a plane with the shelf.
Figure 3, a vertical section, taken through iig. 1 on `theline Z.
Figure 4, a perspective view of the device for supl porting the leaf and thelarms of the clothes-drier.
Figure 5, a viewlof one of the inner anglesof the fruitfdlier, showing the rod that holds it together.
` The nature of the-present invention consists in the novel construction and combination'of a rbtating shelf, a .drying or warming-oven, and a clothes-drier, the
' whole being supported in a convenient position above `astove by the pipe .leading therefrom.
. 1t' represents a light iron shelf,.which is cast in a solid plate or with intersecting bals and scrolLwork, as most desirable, and which hasa circular opening through itof suitable size to receive a collar, L, figs. 1 and 3, on which the shelf rotates.
This collar has a ange, M, iig. 3, on which the shelf bears, and over its periphery,`at the top end, is
placed a collar, N, which is held in place by means of a screw, V, passing through projecting lugs on the collars, and bearing against a curved plate, x, and at the same time holding the collar L to the stovepipc A.
f The shelf R at one side of the pipe supports a drying and warming-oven, D, which consists of a top' plate, D, ends and back H I, doors F, and a grated bottom, J J, &c., the several parts being held together by means ofrods E put through the shelf R, and fast- .ened to the grated bottom J. In making the article,
however, the plate `D may be dispensed with by casting the top part R solid. and using it as a top for the drier.
A leaf, B, figs. 1, 2, and 3, is hinged to the shelf R at O C, and it is supported by a truncated support, K,
.which is so cut away at g that when that side is turned around, on its pivot l, to a point parallel with the joint of the leaf, the latter will fall down, as shown by dotted lines O, g. 1.
This support is arranged, by means of slots ff, 85e., to hold a series of arms, P, for drying clothes, or other household articles, and therefore the double purpose of supporting the leaf B and arms P.
By means of this construction and arrangement the -drier can be placed on the front, back, or side of th e pipe A, according to the degree of heat required, and if the room in frontof the pipe is required for culinary purposes, the leaf B` can be turned down.
Having thus described my invention,
I do not claim a stove-pipe shelf, 4that having been used before; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, `is
lhe combination of a rotating shelf, R, provided with a hinged leaf, B, with the drying-oven D, provided with a grated bottom, J, and the pivoted support K, provided with slots f,rfor supporting arms P, and so cut away on the side g as to allow the leaf B to fall down, when the support is turned on its pivot l, as set forth.
. W. E. GANEDY. Witnesses: 1
PETER JOHNSON, J. W. BREWSTER.
