UNITED STATES PATENT UFFTCE.
EUGENE H. WOOD, OF ROSWELL, GEORGIA.
DRAWERS ADJUSTER AND SUPPOBTER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE H. WOOD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roswell, in the county of Cobb and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawers Adjusters and Supporters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in drawers adjusters and supporters, and has for its object the provision of means for securing the contiguous parts or overlapping parts of a garment together, and also drawing the two parts of a garment together for causing the same to fit snugly upon the body of the wearer.
Another object of the invention is the peculiar construction of a supporter, which comprises a minimum number of parts, is comparatively simple in construction, and inexpensive to manufacture.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the same applied to drawers or a garment. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal, horizontal, sectional view of part of the device illustrated in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the rear of the plate or member con stituting the body of the device. Fig. 4 is perspective view of the rear of the stud or button-plate.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates, preferably, a curved plate, which is adapted to conform to the curvature of the abdomen, and said plate comprises a body 2 provided near its rear end with, preferably, a plurality of elongated slots 3. These slots 8 are arranged parallel and extend transversely of the curved plate 2. The rear end of the body 2 is bifurcated, as at l, and one side of the bifurcated portion terminates in an eye 5, and the other side terminates in a hook 6. Extending longitudinally of the body 1 and formed upon the outer edge of the side of the bifurcated portion carrying the eye 5, is a horizontal. eye 6 A pin 7 is positioned near one end in the Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 29, 1907.
Patented Oct. 27, 1908,
Serial No. 399,692.
eye 5 and the right-angularly disposed portion 8 of the pin is positioned in the longitudinally-extending eye 6 Fig. 3.
At the front or opposite end, there is formed a slit or elongated opening 9, and turned or positioned at substantially rightangles to the body portion 2, is a portion 10 of the body, Figs. 2 and 3, constituting a guide, through which the elastic strap 11 extends. Contiguous to the opening 9, and, preferably, formed upon the inner face of the plate 1, is a transversely-extending eye or loop 12, Fig. 3, within which is fixedly secured a pin 13, constituting fastening means, whereby the front end of the plate is secured to the garment let, whereas the rear end of the plate is secured to the garment through the medium of pin 7, Fig. 1, thereby preventing the plate from having a pivotal movement upon the garment when attached thereto.
The elastic strap 11 is provided, at its outer or front end with a loop 15, within which is secured eye 16, the eye having a suitable aperture 17, by means of which the eye is attached to stud 18, which is secured to, preferably, the outer face of the stud-plate 19. The strap 11 is, preferably, threaded through the outer, elongated slot, and thence threaded through the slot next to the outer, elongated slot, and, subsequently, threaded through the inner slot, Fig. 2, and by grasping the end 20 of strap 11, and drawing towards the front end thereof or that end carrying the fastening means 7, the looped end 15 of the strap can be drawn towards the bifurcated portion 9, and thereby decrease the length of the fastening device, whereas, by drawing outward upon the looped end 15 of said strap, the length of the fastening device may be increased.
The stud or button-plate 19 is provided with a body 20, near one end of which is secured the stud or button 18, and the opposite end is bifurcated, as at 21, and said bifurcated-end is provided with a side forming a hook 6, and the opposite end of said bifurcated portion is provided with an eye 5 and a horizontal "extending eye 6 the same as plate 2, within which eyes 5 and 6 is secured a pin 7, constituting fastening or attaching means. It will, therefore, be noted that at both ends of the supporting or stiffening or bracing-plate 2, and at one end of the stud-plate 20, I have provided similarly-constructed fastening means for supporting the plates upon a garment.
The stud-plate is attached to one part of the garment, and the supporting-plate 2 is attached to the opposite side or part of the garment, owing to the fact that the strap 11 overlaps the meeting edges of the garment, Fig. 1, and through the medium of the hook or hook-plate 16, the two parts of the fastening device can be secured together and the overlapping or contiguous edges of the garment will normally be secured together. If it is desired to have the garment fit snug or tight upon the wearer, it is only necessary to adjust the strap 11 and hook the hook on the stud or button 18, which will prevent the flap or overlapping portions from dropping down, or the garment from being loose upon the person.
It will be noted that the device is especially adapted for mens drawers, owing to the peculiar structure, although the same may be used on other garments, as for instance, holding the contiguous parts of a coat together. An important feature of the invention is the curved bracing and supporting-plate, which is provided with fastening means near each end, and which supports an adjusting strap intermediate its ends for carrying the hook or attaching means for securing the strap to a fiXed member or button.
It is to be understood that, if I desire, the loop or eye 16 may be secured to an ordinary button or a member fixed or otherwise secured to the garment, but owing to the fact that it is desirable to have a detachable structure which can be quickly adjusted to any garment, the stud-plate 19 is essential and of great importancealthough I do not necessarily limit my invention to the employment of a detachable stud 'or button, or fixed fastening device.
WVhat I claim is:
l. A device of the character described, comprising pairs of plates, one plate comprising a stud-plate, said stud-plate comprising a body provided with a stud, said body provided with a bifurcated portion, one of the sides of the bifurcated portion terminating in a hook, the other side of the bifurcated portion integral with a plurality of eyes or loops, a pin positioned in said eyes or loops and normally engaging the hook for securing the stud-plate to one of the parts of a garment, and the other plate provided with fastening means engaging the stud.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a curved plate provided near one end with a slot and a transverselyextending eye, fastening means extending transversely of said plate and positioned in said eye, said plate provided near its opposite end with a plurality of transverse slots and with a'bifurcated portion, said bifurcated portion provided with sides, one of said sides integral with a plurality of eyes, a pin secured within said eyes, the opposite side ofsaid bifurcated portion provided with a hook, said pin normally engaging said hook, a strap threaded through all of said elongated slots, and fastening means carried by said strap.
3. A device of the character described, comprising a plate provided at one end with a portion formed at an angle and having an opening or aperture therein, said plate provided at its opposite end with a hook and with an eye, a pin-fixedly secured near one end in said eye and adapted to engage, near its opposite end,-said hook, fastening means secured to the innerface of and inter mediate the side edges of the plate near the angularly-disposed end, a strap threaded through the opening or aperture of the angularly-disposed end and passing around portions of the plate, and fastening means carried by said strap for attaching the same to a garment.
4. A device of the character described, comprising a plate provided at one end with an angularly-disposed portion, said portion provided with an elongated aperture or opening, a pin fixedly secured to said plate between the-side edges thereof and contiguous to said elongated opening, said plate provided at its opposite end with a hook, a pin fixedly secured at one end to the plate and engaging said hook, and said plate provided near the end carrying the hook with transverse, elongated apertures or openings, a strapthreaded through the aperture of the angularly-disposed portion and also through the transverse apertures near the opposite end, and garment attaching means carried by said strap.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
