TROUSERS-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 28, 1918.
Application filed June 22, 1915. Serial No. 35,680.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DELBERT A. FRANoIs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Trousers-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment supporters and more particularly to supporters for trousers.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved trousers support whereby the trousers will lie more smoothly and comfortably upon the back and hips, and will yield to accommodate itself to contortions of the body.
The invention is embodied in the construction herein particularly shown and described and then finally claimed.
In the accompanying drawing Figure l is a perspective view of the supporter in position on a portion of a pair of trousers.
Fig. is a detail view of the supporters illustrating its operation.
In the views 5 designates a plate provided with slots 6 through which ordinary bachelor buttons are passed and secured to attach the plate to the inner side of the upper portion of the rear of the trousers. To opposite portions of the plate below the said eyes are pivoted as at 7 loop members 8 having elongated eyes 9 to receive fiat flexible elastic straps 10. These flexible straps 10 have ordinary clasps, as at 11, for adj usting the length of the strap applied. The longer ends of the straps are extended forward around the inner sides of the waist of the trousers to the front where they are provided with button holes 12 to be secured upon buttons 13. Each strap is shown as provided with an intermediate button hole 14 to receive a button 15.
When the device with the straps are properly adjusted and the trousers buttoned upon the body of the wearer there is a draft on the straps. Such a draft naturally changes the relation of the straps to the plate and the pivoted loops 8 oscillate vertically or parallel to the back and thus the straps are kept fiat and prevented from acquiring a twist. This action also causes a lifting of the trousers at the rear and keeps them properly elevated at that portion. The action of the straps and plate is illustrated, possibly in exaggerated degree, in broken lines Fig. 2. The operation of this device is quite useful in sustaining the trousers in proper position where violent games are played requiring great distortions of the body or much stooping because the trousers are automatically restored to proper position and the straps kept fiat notwithstanding the stooping.
The forms of the parts can be changed without departing from the gist of the invention as claimed.
Vhat I claim is- 1. A garment support comprising, in combination, a plate having means in its upper portion whereby it may be attached to the rear of the garment, loop members pivoted to opposite sides of said plate below said plate attaching means and flexible members attached to said loop members to extend forward and upward in opposite directions and be secured to the forward portions of the garment.
A garment support comprising, in combination, a plate having means in its upper portion whereby it may be attached to the rear of the garment, loop members pivoted to opposite sides of said plate below said plate attaching means, said loop members having elongated eyes and flat flexible members secured in said eyes extending forward and upward and secured to the forward portion of the garment.
