Description

O 55mm @met i (time t weee-W WILLIAM A. CASWELL, '0F PROVIDENCE, RHODE` ISLAND.
Letters Patent No. 89,557, dated May 4. 1.869.
DMPROVED BLIND-STOP,
The'Sehedule. referred to in these Letters Patent and maldng part of the lame.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM A. CAswnLL, of the city and county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a certain new and useful Blind- Slat Fastener; and I do hereby declare the following specification, taken in connection with the drawings furnished, and forming a part of the same, to be a true, clear, and exact description thereof.
Figure 1 represents a front view of a window-blind, having one of my blind-Slat fastenings attached.
Figure 2 represents the same in vertical Section.
Like parts are lettered the same in each figure.
A represents the bottom Iail of the blind.
B is the lower slat of the same.
C represents a curved linger, having slight notchescut upon the inside of the curve.
D is a circular plate, to which the finger is attached, near its lower end, by means of ears o1' lugs, projecting from the face ofthe plate, and a pin passing through them and the curved finger, and is shown at point marked E. v
G is a spiral spring, t-ted to a concave socket in the lower inside face'of the nger C, and resting inahole provided for it in the bottom rail of the blind.
Bythe outward pressure of the spring agaipst the lower end of the curved finger, the upper end is forced against the Vupper edge of the lower slat, which is duly provided with a wire shoe, to prevent wear by friction.
H is a button or catch, riveted to the face of the plate D, and is so arranged, in relation to the finger C, that it can be turned into a slot, provided for the purpose, and prevent the moving of the ringer, thus, in eiiect, bolting the blind-slats against intrusion from without.
The oircularplate D is provided with countersunk holes, for thereception of screws, for fasteningthe same to the blindi The operation of my fasteningjs obvious.
By contact with the upper edge of the slat, of the curved iingerunder pressure'f'rom the spring, the slat is retained in any desired position.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patenty I 1. The blind-Slat fastening herein descn'bed, con.- ssting of the curved finger O, the plate D, and spring G, or their mechanical equivalents, arranged and operzttilng substantially as set forth, for the purposes spec1 e 2. In combination with the plate D, and finger O, the button H, constructed and operating substantially as described, for the purposes specified.
WM. A. GASWELL.
