IMPROVED SASH-FASTENER.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N o. 59,558, dated November 13, 1866.

To all whom fit may concern:

Be it known that I, DE LANCE COLE, of

Marshall, Clark county, and State of Illinois,

have invented a new and Improved Sash Fastener and Supporter 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descript'on thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication.

The present invention relates to a novel and useful device to be applied to the sashes of windows, by means of which the sash can be fastened and held or supported at any desired height within the limit of its play, and either entirely opened or closed, as will be obvious from the following detail description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying plate of drawings, in which- Figure l is a view of a sash-frame with my improved supporter and fastener attached to it; Fig. 2, an enlarged front view of the sashsupporter, and Fig. 3 an edge view of Fig. 2.

A in the drawings representsasash arranged so as to slide up and down within a suitable frame, B, which, in the present instance, is supposed to be the window casing or frame. To one side of the sash-frame A my improved supporter and fastener therefor is hung by its slot C upon a iXed pin or stud, D, ofthe sash,

having a square or other suitably-shaped head, D, to prevent the fastener from becoming de' taohed therefrom. This fastener is made of a plate of metal or other suitable material, with a bearing-edge, F, at each end of the same, and upon the saine side, which edges F are brought to bear against the side of the window frame or casing by either moving the said plate up and down upon the fixed pin D of the sash, the shape and direction of the slot in the said plate being such as to cause the saine, as is plainly shown in the drawings, especially in Fig. 2, on an enlarged scale.

I By means of the fastener-plate hereinabove referred to as hung upon the sash-frame, it is plainly obvious that the sash can be supported and fastened by it at any desired height within the limit of its play or movement, and either entirely opened or closed, the supporter einbraced in this invention being exceedingly simple and cheap to manufacture, as well as efficient and practical in operation.

I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The slotted plate H, when hung upon a pin or stud, D, of a sash-frame, as and for the purpose described.
