Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
R. M. DALBEY, OFSPRINGFIELD, OHIO.
" IMPRovl-:D SASI- I-HOLDERQ Specification forming part of Letters `Patent No. 96,678, dated November 9, 1869.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, B. M. DALBEY, of Springfield, in the county of Clarke, and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Locks; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The object of my invention is to provide a sash-lock which shall be so constructed as to be adapted to either the upper Aor lower sash, and which will make a safe and secure lock for them. v
Figure l is a perspective of my lock attached to the sill of a window. Fig. 2 is a section view of both sash and sill, showing the internal arrangements.
Letter A represents the side of the windowsill in which the lock is embedded. Screwed into the side of this sill is the metal plate B, which has two openings made through it, one above the other. The upper is a mere elongated slot, out of which the head of the dog C protrudes, while the lower one, of similar size and shape, has an indentation or orice pressed into the plate, so as to "serve as a pivot upon which the hook upon the lower part of the dog is hung. Upon the back part of this plate there is also a bed made, upon which the spring D is secured.
Back of the plate B is the dog C, by means of which the sash is held up or down. Upon the upper part of this dog, extending through the opening in the plate B, there is the head or projection e, placed so as to catch in the opening made in the sash. Lower down there is a second projection, d, the lower part of which is formed like a hook, so as to catch in l, by means of which the head e is moved in and out.
In the side of the sash there are a numberi of notches cut, into which the head e catches, so as to hold the sash up or down. Those notches into which the head is to catch so as A to lock the window or hold it stationary are square in shape, while those which merely hold it up have square shoulders, but are beveled downward, so that the head can slip from one to the other while the sash is being raised.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
In the above-described constructiony of fastener, fastening the dog into its `face-plate by means of the hook d, passing through the opening in the plate, and dispensing with trun` nions and journals, substantially as herein set forth.
rIn testimony that I claim'the foregoing I f have hereunto set my hand this 23d day of l March, 1869.
' R. M. DALBEY.
