IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-FASTENING-S.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making peut of the same.

reference being had to the annexed drawing, making ypart of this specification, wherein- Figure lis an elevation of said sash-fastener, the sashes being shown in section.

Sash-fastenings have before been made with a hinged stop, one leaf of the hinge being screwed to the top of the lowersash, and the swinging leaf setting up beneath a stop and bolt. In this character of fastening, the swinging leaf had to be turned up to its place, and was not in any respect self-acting.
My invention consists in a T- shaped pawl, the endpiece of which is coniined, by a slotted strap, to the upper edge of the sash, so that only a limited motion is allowed to the same, and the moving end of the pawl lies against the upper sash, and is self-acting, by falling into a notch in the upper sash, when the window is closed.
In the drawingwis the pawl, with the T- shaped end, that is rounded, as at l1, to form the axis on which the pawl swings.

The pawl lt,'with its T-,head, in combination with the strap, setting over said pawl, and provided with a mortise, for the pawl to pass through, constructed and `arranged as and for the purposes set forth.
