COMBINED DOAOR-BVOLT AND WEATHER-STRIP.

The Schedulev referre to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it 'may concern:

Be it known that 1, A. NEWCQMB, of Shipman, in the county of lYIacou'pin, l'and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Combined Door-Bolt and Weather-Strip; and I do hereby-declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable othersskilled in the art 4to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,`forming part of this specication, in whichy Figure 1 represents aside elevation of the sliding The weather-strip, which is of-an ordinary construc-` tion, is arranged in a slot in the lower end of the door, and connected to an ordinary sliding' bolt, which l prefer to arrange at about the centre of the door, at the bottom, so that, when the bolt is raised, it will raise the strip, and, wehen closed, will lock the door to the threshold upon the inside, and apply the weatherstrip to the same upon the outside.

A" represents the door, and

B, the threshold, which I prefer to provide with a recess on the outside, as shownin iig. 2.

C representsthe sliding bolt, secured to the inside ofthe door, and provided with an arm, D, 'projecting into a groove in the side ofthe door.

-The door is provided with a deep, narrow groove in the end, running from edge to edge, the i'nher wall of which is designed to be coincident with the vertical wall ofthe recess in the threshold, when the door Vis shut.

E' represents the weather-strip, which is suspended by a slot, inthe upper edge, fromthc arm'D.

The strip E, and the bolt D, are so arranged, with reference to each other, that, when the bolt is shoved down, to lock the door, the strip will beshut down the recess of the threshold, as shown in fig. 2, aud when the bolt is drawn up, the strip will'be raised sufliciently above the shoulder of the recess of the threshold as to admit the door to be opened.

The threshold need not be recessed unless preferred, as the strip maybe allowed to rest on the top of it, or it may drop into a groove in the threshold. l rlhe mortise inthe strip, for the reception of the arm D, is made of suiicient length to admit suihcient play of the parts to compensate for any variations of their relative positions that may occur when either closed or open.

Having thus described my invention,

I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Y The arrangement of the bolt C, arm I), and slotted weather-strip E, with reference to each other, the re-" cessed door A, and the mortised and recessed threshold B, whereby the downward movement of the bolt locks the door to the threshold upon the inside, and

applies the weather-strip to the same upon the outside, as herein shown and described or the purpose specified.
