Description

i d @gaat @met (time.
HENRY` HASLAM, OF` NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TC- HIMSELF AND WALTER HASLAM, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-FASTENER.
The Schedulerrefen-ed to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
To all whom '5t may concern Be it known that I, HENRY HAsLAM, of New Britain, county of Hartibrd, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Sash-Fasteners and to enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe, by referring to the drawings, in which the same letters indicate like parts in each of the figures.
The nature of this invention will be understood from the specification and drawings, in which- Figure l is a side view.
Figure 2 is an end View.
a is the jamb or fastening-plate, having side and end elevations, or ears, b, through which the fulcrum-pins c are secured.
l is a guard, for the spring e.
f is a face-plate, having a' notched and double-ineline or cani-edge plate, g, formed or secured at rightI angles therewith. This plate f is also provided with ears h,by means of which said plate fis secured and oseillates upon the pins c. The surface, near the edge of the plate a', Vand directly under the edge of the plate g, is also made, slightly double-incline or cam-shaped, the 'objectoi' which is to guide or form a surface, against which the stud-pin fi, secured in or on the face of the sash, may ride past, or be held by the notch in the lockplate j g.
k is a knob, for operating the cam-plate or fastener, and in many cases can be operated equally well Withent the knob k.
The plate f being secured in its proper place by the pins c, and held in a locked position by the spring e, and secured upon the inside edge of the jamb, so that the face of the cani-plate g will be next to the face of the sash, and the pins t, arranged at intervals on the stile of the sash, it will be ready for use, care being had to have the lower pin 'i secured at a point, so that when the sash is down, or closed, said pin t will enter the notch formed iu said plate, and thereby iirlnly lock the sash in a closed position; and when desirable to open the window, it is only necessary to press the plate f or knob k, and lift the sash, so that either ofthe other pins t' will enter said notch, and hold the sash in a desired position.
By this improvement, the perplexity of having inetlicient devices for fastening down or for holding up windows can be obviated, and a good, efficient, and cheap article produced.
tion, and advantage of this invention, so as to enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same therefrom.
What I claim, therefore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
, A sash-fastener, with its plate g, spring e, and bolt t, arranged substantially as shown and described.
HENRY vHASLAM. [It s] Vtnesses:
E. W. Brass, JEREMY W. BLISS.
I believe I have thus shown the nature, construc-I
