Description

lock to the door.
decimi tats/a ngc-@W s westerse-w VM.4 G. IMBCH, OFV HARTFORD, CONNEC'IICU'I.
` Lezers Patent No. 83,500, dazed october 27,1868.
IMIPROVEMENT l Be it known that I, M. G. IMBAGH, of Hartford, in the county of Hartford, and in the State of Connecticut, `have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Locks; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had'to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and general arrangement of a lock` which' can be used as a common latch-lock, and' is provided with a place for a hasp below it.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, Iwill now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specification, Vand in which- Figure 1 is an inside view of the lock-plate;
Figure 2, aside view of the same, with the latch inserted;
Figure 3, a side view ofthe spring-bolt;
Figure 4, an inside view of the casing;
Figure 5, a side view of the lock complete; and
Figure 6, a front View of the hasp.
A represents the latch, pivoted at .its lower end between the ears b b, on the plate c, .and extends upwards into the caseing I, covering the Vheaded staple G, as shown in g. 5, Iwhich staple passes throughthe plate, and is provided with a female screw,in which the screw-bolt d runs, for the purpose of fastening the The head of the staple ts into the slot'a. on the hasp B, shown in g. 6, affording a suficient hold for tlie same. i
The key-holeescuteheon His placed on the outside of the casing I, and is Aprovided on'its inner side with a pin, which passes through the casing, -thus pivm BASF-Locks.
oting the-escutcheon on the outside. On the inside ofthe casing this pin is fastened to a bell-crank, F, which is held in proper position by the spiral spring G, as shown in fig. 4, so that the esc'utcheon will al ways beI over the key-hole when the key is not in the lock.
The spring-bolt D, which extends in the opening on the casing I, and there holds the latch when closed, is provided with flanges, le e, one on each side, Iwhich, runV under and inside of the casing. This' spring-bolt is also provided, on its under side, with a groove, f, and a pin, i, through the side of this groove, which pin holds the bolt to a slotted bar, y, on theV sliding plate E, the pin mentioned running through this slot, and the bar itself in the groove on the bolt. The bolt D is held in vits proper position by a spring, h, which is secured to the lock-plate K; and by this arp rangement the bolt D may be moved backward, when the lock is. open, without imparting movement to the sliding plate, or, in other words, the latch may be closedwithout using the key in the lock. i,
The sliding plate E is secured, by one or more tumblers, k k, to the lock-plate K.
Having thus fully described my invention, i What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The arrangement of the casing I, sliding plate E, Y spring-bolt D, escutcheon H, latch A, and staple C, Y all constructed and operating substantially as' and fory the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 19th day of May, 1868.
' M. G. IMBACH. Witnesses:
