Description
I PATENTED APR. 28, 1908. ELD. OBER'IRIFTBR.
I DISPLAY CASE. APPLICATION FILED AUG. 27 .1907.
EDWIN D. OBERTRIFTER, OF FREDONIA, NEW YORK.
DISPLAY-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 28, 1908.
Application filed August 27, 1907. SerialNo. 390,377.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN D. OBnnTRIr- TER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fredonia, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Display-Case, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display racks or cases and is particularly designed for the display of packages of seeds although it can be used equally as well for displaying any other articles.
The object of the invention is to provide a casing of compact form in which a plurality of trays are mounted, said trays being designed, when the case is open, to assume positions whereby the contents of the trays can be plainly visible.
A still further object is to provide simple mechanism operated by the cover of the case for raising the trays so that the same will be dis osed in tiers.
ith these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings is shown the preferred form of the invention.
In said drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of the device open. Fig. 2 is a section therethrough on line :r-x, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a central vertical section therethrough showing the same closed.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates a box of any suitable proportions, the front wall 2 of which is preferably of less height than the rear wall. Partitions 3 may, if desired, be extended from front to rear of the box near the ends thereof to form end compartments 4 and a large intermediate compartment 5. The box is designed to be closed by a cover made up of hingedly connected panels 6 and 6, there being buttons 7 or other suitable means connected to one of the panels to prevent said anels from folding when the box is closed A leaf 8 is hinged to one edge of the panel 6 and is designed to extend in front of the box and to abut against the wall 2 and this leaf is provided with one or more hooks 9 which may be placed in engagement with pins 10 for the purpose of locking the cover when the box is closed. Secured to the bot tom of the compartment 5 near the front thereof is a tray 1 1 which extends close to the pockets 14 by means of partitions 15.
It is of course to be understood that when the trays are in their normal positions they rest upon the bottom of compartment 5. \Vhen they are in this position the cover must be closed and the connections 21 will therefore be slack. When it is desired to use the case for display purposes the leaf 8 is unfastenedfrom wall 2 and the buttons 7 are turned so as to plermit the panels 6 and 6 to fold upon eac. other. The various cover sections are then swung into positions shown in Fig. 2 and will pull upward on the strips 16 through connections 21 and cause the trays 19 to move upward. The contents of the various trays will therefore be fully displayed. A case such as herein described is especially adapted for holding packages of seeds although it will be apparent that the same can be used equally as well for holding medicines, samples, etc.
As indicated in Fig. 3 the cover when closed will prevent displacement of any packages contained within the various trays and therefore the case when locked can be transported from place to place without danger of the contents thereof becoming mixed.
What is claimed is: a
1. A display device comprising a body, a sectional cover movably connected thereto, a tray fixedly secured within the body, a plurality of movable trays within the body, links connected to and solely supported by the trays, and a flexible connection between the links and the cover for supporting the links and trays in raised positions when the cover is open.
2. A device of the character described comprising-a body, a sectional cover movably connected thereto and foldable into contact With a supporting structure to hold said folded cover projected above the body, a lurality of Inovably connected trays Wit iin the body, and flexible connections between the trays and cover for simultaneously raising the trays into tiers when the cover is open and folded.
3. A device of the character described comprising a body, a sectional cover hingedly connected thereto, a tray fixedly secured within the body, a supporting strip pivotally connected thereto, flexible connections between said strip and the cover, and trays connected to the strip, said strip being connected to all of and supportedsolely by the trays, said cover being movable into open positionto raise the strips and support the trays in tiers.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
EDWIN D OBERTRIFTER.
