Description

@anni tim "L HOUT M'NNICH, OF' TUSCARAWAS, OHO.'
Lem-fs Patent No. 87,864, daad Mam. 16, 1869.
IMPROVE!) BRIDLE-BIT.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent an'd making part of the lame.
To all whom 'it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J. HOUT Mumien, of Tuscara was, in the county of Tuscarawas, and State of Ohio, have invented a. new and improved Safety Bridle-Bit; and I do'hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being hadto the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a side view of my improved bri- (lle-bit.
Figure 2 is a front view ofthe same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. y p
This invention has for itsobject to construct a bridle-bit, which can be used to readily` manage and control even the wildest horse, and by which the habit of kicking can be readily broken.
The invention consists in fitting the ends of the .bridle-.bit through slotted plates, and in'so connecting the bit with the reins, that itcari readily be drawn up against .the roof of the horses gnouth, and, at the same time, backward. Horses are-thereby successfully prevented from holding the bit with their teeth, and can consequently be readily controlled.
A, in the drawing, represents a bridle-bit, of suitable construction. Its ends are'itted through slotted plates B B, which are held on the side of the horses head by the headstall-strap O, and nose-strap D, or otherwise.V
The reins E are passed over pins, or rollers aa, that project from the plates B, and are fastened to the ends of the bit, as shown.
The pins, or rollers, are arranged in loops, or sta ples b b, that project from the plates B, as in iig. 2.:
It will be readily understood, by referring to g. 1, that by pulling the rein, the lbit is drawn up in the slots of the -plates B, toward or against the roof of the horses mouth, and that, at the saine time, a backward movement is obtained ou the bit. y A
With the bits' now in use, backward motion of the bit could alone be obtained, and the horses frequently prevented any effect 'from such motion, by holding the bits between their teeth. y
By my invention, this difculty is entirely overcome, as the upward motion will draw the bit between the teeth.
Having thus described my invention,
r I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The application, to a bridle-bit and reins, of the slotted plates B, which are provided with the pins, or
rollers a, substantially as described, so that the bit will be drawn up in the slotted plates, when the reins are pulled, asset forth.
- J. HOUT MINNIOH.
