Description

, time @anni t 3F www effi IMPROVEMENT 1N BRLDLES. u'
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pm of the same.
Q-Orw- To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J onsY MCKIBBEN, of Lima, in the county of Allen, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Bridle; and I do hereby declare that the ibllow'ing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make anduse the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and improved bridle, as hereinafter fully shown and described, whereby several advantages are obtained, which will be presently set forth. n
The accompanying drawings represent a side view of my invention, applied to a horse.
A represents 'the bliuders;
B, the brow-strap;
C, the throat-latch; and
D, the head-strap.
The brow-strap B has its ends connected lto loops a a, and these loops are connected, by snap-hooks b b, to the head-strap I), said hooks fitting in rings e, which are at the ends of a strap, d, attached to the top ofthe head-strap, as shown clearly in the drawing.
At the rear edges of the blinders A there are -tubes e, made of leather or metal, and extendingr the whole `length of the blinders; and through the loops b, tubes e, and fixed guides f j, at the upper part of each sidebar g of the bit, reins E pass.
These reins form the cheek-pieces of the bridle, and said reins, at each side of the bridle, have stops h tted on them, one above each loop c, another below each tube e ofthe blinders, and another below the lowest guide f on the sidevbars g of the bit, as shown clearly in the drawing.
The bit is constructed on the principle of a curb, the side-bars g being levers, and the reins E pass through rings i, attached to the lower ends of the bars g, as shown in the drawing,
By this arrangement it will be perceived that the reins E serve check and driving-reins combined, and give the driver complete control over the animal.
These reins E may only be used when necessary, another pair, F, being attached to the bit, near the upper part of the bars g, in rings'j, connected thereto. In this oase, the bit will operate like au ordinary barbit.
The stops h. limit the movement of the reins E, and prevent any unnecessary play or movement of the same. Y
Having thus ,described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The reins E, provided with the stops h, in combination with the bit, having its side-bars g provided with guides ff for the reins to pass through, and the tubes e, at the rear edges of the blindeis, through which the n reins also pass, all arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, thisQth day of March, 1868. A
' JOHN MGKIBBEN. Witnesses:
