. UNITED STATES PATENT oFFIoE.
JOHANN SENN, OF BERNE, SWITZERLAND.
FASTENER.
Patented Nov. 19, 1907.
Original application filed September 16. 1905. Serial No. 278,691- Divided and this application filed S te b r 18. 1906- Serial No. 334,461. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHANN SENN, a citizen'of Switzerland, residing at Berne, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is related to fastening de- -vices for lacing shoes and other articles plate and disposed eccentrically in said cap and means for attaching the device to the article onwhich it is used. The cap which can be of any desired shape, is preferably made oblong and provided with openings through which the lacing enters, to be passed around said guiding member. The said plate and the means whereby the device is. attached may be made integral.
On the accompanying drawing, illustrating the invention, Figure .l. is a vertical section through the fastening device, Fig. 2 a plan view, Fig. 3 a detail view, showing the plate.
As seen from the drawing, the cap of oblong shape consists of a housing I) made of thin sheet metal, in which is firmly clamped aplate 0. Between this plate and the top of the cap I) is located a guiding member for the lacing, said member consisting of a roller The said roller is provided with pointed ends, whereby it is journaled in the top of the cap and the plate 0, which parts, to this end, are provided with indentations 1, 2.
As seen, the roller a is disposed eccentrically with respect to the shank 0, whereby the device is fastened to the article on which it is used. The shank e, as seen, is made integral with the plate a, which is held by the cap I). The lower portion 5 of the shank is bent over against the material, a flat ring 6 being interposed between the bent portion 5 and the material, the said ring 6 serving as a washer.
The cap I) and plate 0 are clamped firmly and securely together, the inturned lower edge of the cap gripping the margin of plate 0. as if practically made of one piece, and the roller (1 is held against displacement by the indentations 1 and 2.
The cap, as seen from the drawing, is provided on its sides with slots 3 and 4, through which the lacing enters the housing to be passed around the roller a. By giving the cap an oblong shape, a large clearance space is afforded the lacing.
lVhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A fastening for lacings, comprising a shank for securing the fastening to an article of apparel, said shank having an eccentrically located flange, an externally-smooth, laterally-apertured cap attached to said flange throughout its periphery, said cap and flange having registering indentations located to one side of the shank and a roller journ aled in said indentations.
2. A fastening for lacings, comprising a hollow shank having an eccentric flange pro- .vided with an indentation, located eccentrically with respect to the shank, an externallysmooth cap provided with lateral apertures and an indentation registering with the indentation of the flange, said cap being secured to the flange throughout its periphery, a roller rotatably mounted. in the registering indentations, and means for securing said shank to an article of apparel; said cap-ap ertures being adapted to permit a lace to move in contact with said roller.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
