UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM E. RAINES, OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM W.
Y NUTTING, OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH.
A DOOR-SEGURER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 12, 1907.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM E. RAINES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Securers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to portable locks, such as are used by travelers to apply to their hotel room doors, and is operatedentirely from the inside of the room.
The lock or securer consists of two separate members, one of which is attached to the door casing, and the other to the edge of the door; the parts being readily thrown into, or out of engagement, as desired; and easily removed from the door and casing, when the room is vacated.
The construction of the device is very simple, and the cost of manufacture quite low.
The accompanying drawing illustrates the invention, its various parts being referred to by numeral characters.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is an edge view or plan of the device, in a position of engagement, when in service on a door. Fig. 2 is a side elevation oi the device, with the pivoted member turned out of engagement with thejfixed member. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary elevation of a closed door and its casing, with my securer in operative position thereon.
land oblong in shape.
The character 6 designates the fixed member of the securer, which consists of a plate, preferably of metal, This plate is provided on its rear side near one end, with pointed pins 7, 7, which are easily pressed into the door casing, and allow the other end of the plate to project into the room.
An open loop or catch, 8 is formed on this projecting part of the plate 6, bya retroversion of its terminal outer portion; the sides of the loop, thus formed, being parallel and separated sufficiently to admit the end of the other member of the securer. This other member,
or plate 10, resembles the fixed plate in material and general outline, but is shorter and straight throughout its length. It is provided near its inner end with a rearwardly extended, round pointed pin 11, which is pressed into the door edge, pposite to plate 6, and serves as a pivot, on which the plate 10 maybe rotated. This plate 10 is adjusted so that when turned parallel to plate 6, its terminal portion will enter the open loop 8, and this engagement of the two plates fastens the door. As is evident, to turn plate 10 out of engagement with said loop, unlastens the securcr. Only a partial rotation of plate 10 is required, and, in order to prevent unnecessary movement of plate 10, a stop pin 12, is provided on this plate, which checks its movement by striking the door.
Having described my invention and its application and operation, what I claim and desire to secure, is-
1. A door securer comprising a fixed plate attachable to a door casing, an open loop at the outer end of said plate, and another plate rotatably attachable to the edge of a door, and whose outer end is adapted to engage said open loop. as dcscrlhed.
2. A door securcr comprising a plate for the door casing, pins on said plate to secure it to said casing, an open loop at the outer end of said plate, a shorter plate for the edge of the door, a pin on said shorter plate to rotatably secure said plate to the door, the end of said shorter plate being adapted to engage said loop, as herein set forth.
3. A door sccurer comprising a plate for the door casing, pins on said plate to secure it to said casing, an open loop at the outer end of said plate, a shorter plate for the edge of the door, a pin on said shorter plate to rotatably secure said plate to the door, the outer end of said shorter plate being adapted to engage said loop, and a stop pin on said rotatable plate, to limit the movement of said plate as specified.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM E. RAINES.
