Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JENNIE GILLESPIE DRENNAN, of

. the city of St. Thomas, in the county of Elgin, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, physician, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is the specification.

My invention relates to improvements in corsets,

and the object of. the invention is to devise a simple,

convenient pocket to be used in front of a corset, which will not interfere with the comfort of the wearer of the corset or with the ease. with which the pocket may be gotten at and it consists essentially of a corset having a flap formed at the upper edge thereof integral with the fabric of the corset, and a pocket of a-separate fabric stitched on to the outside of the corset near the upper edge and in proximity to the bust and which the said flap is designed to cover and be connected by a detachable fastening, the parts being arranged and constructed as hereinafter explained.

Figure 1, is a perspective view showing my invention as applied to a corset. Fig. 2, is a vertical section showing the construction of the pocket.

In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.

A is the corset proper, B the bust thereof and A the corset fabric, which it will be noticed is continued near the center or bust B upwardly beyond the upper edge of the corset being turned down to form a flap A C is a piece of a separate fabric, which with the fabric of the corset forms the pocket. The piece 0 is secured by stitching G to the fabric of the corset.

I may provide a suitable lace surrounding theedge of the pocket as shown. I also provide a dome fastening D, whereby the flap A may be detachably con.- nected to the pocket.

Although I show my pocket and flap thereof located at one side of the bust B, itwill be quite readily understood that the flap and pocket may be made with equal facility on the opposite side of the bust.

It is tobe'spec ially noted that my pocket is located on the outside of the corset and, therefore, there is no inconvenience or detriment from the same or uncomfortableness to the wearer. The pocket may be also preferably suitably lined, such as with a chamois lining. It. is equally adaptable for stout or slight people.

What I claim as my invention is: The, combination with a corset, of a piece of fabric stitched around the sides and lower portion to the fabric of the corset near the upper edge thereof, and a suitable flap forming portion of the fabric of the corset and extending from the upper edge of the corset and over the piece, and a suitable fastening for connecting the flap to the piece the inner wall of the pocket thus formed consisting of thematerial of the corset itself as and for the purpose specified. .3
