UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FANNIE E. MOCATHIE, OF PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK.
BIB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 686,631, dated November 12, 1901.
Application filed August 10, 1901- Serial No- 71,622. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FANNIE E. MOC'ATHIE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Port Jervis, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bib, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in bibs for childrens wear; and the object is to provide a bib of the usual textile material, with an inner lining of waterproof material, to prevent the passage of liquid through the bib, or otherwise, making it waterproof, and, further, to make the lining removable, so that the bib may be readily washed in the usual manner.
I will describe a bib embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
'Figure 1 is an inner side view of a bib embodying my invention, with a portion broken away to clearly show the lining. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 '2. of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a plan View of the lining.
The bib comprises the body or chest portion 5 and the neck or shoulder portions 6, these portions being made of two thicknesses of material, as indicated at 7 and 8, the two thicknesses being secured together at the inner and outer edges. As here shown, the outer edge is provided with aruftle 9, although it is obvious that any other ornamentation may be employed or the ruliie may be entirely omitted. The space between the sections forms a pocket to receive a lining 10 of Waterproof material-such, for instance, as thin celluloid.- This lining is substantially crescent-shaped or has a body portion to fit in the body portion of the bib and extended members to pass into the neck or shoulder portions of the bib. The inner thickness or section 8 of the bib has at its central portion an opening 11, through which the lining 10 may be inserted or removed. This lining 10 will not only prevent the passage of liquid through the bib or make the bib practically waterproof, but will serve as a stiffener to prevent rumpliug of the bib. When it is desired to wash the bib, the "lining 10 may be easily removed through the opening 11.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A bib, comprising inner and outer sections secured together at the edges, the inner section at the central portion having a vertitically-disposed opening, and a liningof celluloid adapted to pass through said opening and enter the space between the two sections the said lining having portions extended above the opening, substantially as specified.
2. A bib, comprising inner and outer 1ay-.
ers of textile material stitched together at the edges and having a chest portion and shoulder or neck portions, the inner layer at the breast portion being provided with a vertically-disposed opening, and a lining of waterproof material having a portion to fit in the breast portion of the bib and portions to extend into the neck and shoulder portions of the bib, the said lining being adapted to pass through the opening in the said inner layer,
substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to thisspecification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
