W/ TNE SSE S A Tron/vf xs' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FANNIE E. MCOATHIE, OF PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK.
COLLAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. $82,111, dated September 3, 1901.
Application led May 24, 1901'. Serial No. 61,747; (No model.)
T0 all wil/0m, t may concern:
Be it known that I, FANNIE E. MCOATHIE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Port Jervis, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Collar, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in collars for womens wear; and the object is to provide a removable collar of washable fabric with a stiifener that may be readily removed or inserted.
I will describe a collar embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is afront view of acollar embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an inside plan view thereof with a portion broken away to show the stiffener, and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
The collar comprises an outer section 5 and an inner section 6, these sections being made of a washable fabric. The sections are secured together at the upper and lower edges and at the ends. The inner section, however, is open at the front, as indicated at 7, so that a stiffener 8 may be slid in between the inner and outer sections. In other words, pockets are formed between the inner and outer sections to receive the stiffener. This stiffener preferably consists of celluloid; but it may be made of other suitable material, and for the purpose of ventilation I have shown the stifener as provided with a series of perforations 9. At the lower portion of the opening 7 a loop l0 is secured for the purpose of engaging with a button at the front of a neckband, and a loop l1 is secured to the center of one end of the collar for the purpose of en# gaging with abutton at the back of the neck- I Vfolded toward each other, and then the ends will be passed into the opposite pockets, and by a little pressure the stiener may be forced completely in the pockets.
It will be seen by my invention that the stiffener may be readily removed when it is desired or necessary to wash the collar.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A closed-front collar, comprising an inner section and an outer section secured together at their edges, the said inner section having an opening at the front and extending widthwise of the collar forming two pockets, a stiffener adapted to be placed in the pookets and serving to stiften the collar from edge to edge, and fastening means on the inner face of the collar at the front and end, substantially as specified.
2. Y.A collar, comprising inner and outer sections, secured together at the edges, the inner section having an opening at the front, whereby openings for opposite pockets are formed, a stiffener of Celluloid adapted to be placed in the pockets, the said stiffener having perforations, a loop secured to the lower portion of the front of the collar, and another loop at the center of the end of the collar, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FANN IE E. MCCATHIE.
