M. F. PLACE POCKET Filed May 1 1926.
.JIT. ELPZaoe INVENTOR ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Nov. 30, 1926.
PATENT OFFICE.
MORRILL F. PLACE, OF CHARLESTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS.
POCKET.
r. Application filed May 1, 1926.
This invention relates to a pocket attachment, the general object of the invention be ing to provide means for holding articles in the pocket and preventing them from falling out if the garment is turned upside down or the wearer stoops over.
Another object of the invention is to so form the device that it can be easily and quickly placed in a pocket and removed therefrom.
A still further object of the invention is to make the elastic part of the device removable so that it can be replaced when worn.
This invention also consists in other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the device in a pocket.
Figure 2 is a view of the device itself.
Figure 3 is a view showing the opposite side of the device from that shown in Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view through the device, showing a pencil held in the same.
In these views, 1 indicates a metal plate which is provided with a pair of prongs 2 at each end thereof and a curved tongue at each end which is arranged between the prongs.
as shown at 4, the prongs and tongues being uncovered. A strip 5 of elastic material has a metal loop (3 connected with each end thereof, these loops being adapted to engage the tongues so as to hold the elastic strip on the plate. The upper edge of the strip is provided with an extension 7 which forms a tab which acts as a handle.
The device is adapted to be placed in the 15 certain The plate is covered with fabric,
Serial No. 106,134.
pocket so that the device will he held in the mouth of the pocket. The device may be placed with the plate t against the rear of the pocket and the elastic strip 5 at the front of the pocket so that articles placed in the pocket will have to be passed between the elastic strip and the plate. Portions of the pocket can be fastened to both the plate and the strip, if desired, to prevent entrance to the pocket between a part thereof and either the strip or the plate. If desired, the plate may be placed at the front of the pocket, as shown in Figure 1 and the strip used to hold pencils or the like in the pocket, as shown in Figures 1 and 4. In this case, access can he had to the pocket between the strip and the rear part of the pocket. By detachably connecting the elastic strip with the plate, a new strip can be readily substituted for the old one when the old one has become worn.
llhe device can be placed in garments already made or it may be placed in garments being made.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will he readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and a *rangcment of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is I A pocket closure comprising a plate, spaced prongs at each end of the plate, a curved tongue extending from each end of the plate between said prongs, a strip of elastic, and loops connected with the ends of the elastic and adapted for detachable engagement with the tongues to hold the elastie against the plate.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
