To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, JAMES HALPIN OBEILLY, a citi- Zen ol' the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county oi .lelflerson and State ol Kentucky, have invented certain new and useiul Improvements iu Surgical Foot-Rests, ol which the following is a specilication.

My invention relates to surgical toot rests of the class capable ol attachment directly to the bed, and the objects thereol are to provide a simple, strong and inexpensive article attachable to the side rail oi the patientls bed, and adjustable in its` attachment to compensate ior the differences in shape and size between the side rails oi wooden and iron bed frames.

v To this end my invention specifically resides in the following ieatures oi construction, arrangement and combination as hereinafter described and pointed out in the accompanying drawings, in which,

v Figure 1 is a perspective view of my complete device.

Fig. 2 is a side elevation oi a portion thereof illustrating the attachment oi the same to a Wooden rail A, and, Fig. 3 is a similar view to Fig. 2 illustrating the attachment oi the device to an iron rail B.

ln the practical embodiment of my invention I provide a curved arm 10, preferably constructed oi sheet metal and provided on its upper edge with astii'lening rib 11. On the outer end of the arm 10 1 arrange a slightly concaved plate v12 for the reception of the patients heel, this plate 12 being, oi course, held spaced a distance equal to the length oi the arm 10, from the bed when the same is attached thereto. On the inner end ol the arm 10 l arrange an angle bearing plate 13 adapted to rest upon the bed rail or other support as shown particularly in Figs. 2 and 3. Extending above the Abearing plate 13, and rigidly secured to the end oi the arm 10 is a horizontal threaded rod li arranged to receive thereon the reversible tubular nut 15, provided with a locking circular flange 16.

The rod 17 is provided with a tubular nut 1S similar in character to the nut 15, and'provided with a circular iiange 19 at Mounted below the Arod 14 and pivotally connected to the arm 10 at one side oi the one end thereof, adapted to be moved into direct contact with the support, to lock the device in position.

Referring particularly to Fig. 3 wherein the nuts 15 and 1S are shown locked upon an iron bed rail B, it will be seen that the nut 18, which is ol necessity oi greater length than the nut 15, is screwed upon the threaded rod 17 with its Yflange 19 iorward. When, however, it is desired to secure the device upon a rail A oi a wooden bed lram'e, as shown in Fig. 2, it will be lound necessary to reverse the tubular nut 1S and screw the same upon the rod 17 with its Harige 19 at the rear end, thus allowing for a greater width oi support as shown.

From the foregoing it will be seen that l provide a simple, strong though inexpensive device and one which may be readily adjusted and secured upon the rails ol wooden or iron frame beds, or other suitable supports where the use oi such a device is needed.

Having thus fully described my invention I claim:

l. The combination in a device of the character described ot a curved supporting arm havinga rest plate mounted on its outer end, a pair of threaded rods extend ing angular-ly from the inner end ot' said arm, an angle bearing plate secured to said arm between said rods, and elongated tubular reversible nuts adapted to be screwed on said rods to lock said arm to a suitable support, substantially as described.
