TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 18, 1907.
Application filed October 11, 1906- Serial No. 338,457.
To all whom, it nutg concern:
Be it known that I, MIGUEL PEREZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Toy, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to toys and it consists in the novel construction. and arrangement ofits parts as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a toy comprising a handle having an attached head, a sphere, connected to the handle by means of a string, said sphere having a plurality of circumferential intersecting grooves, the bottoms of said grooves, being provided with holes at their points of intersection. The handle head is provided with means for receiving the surface of the sphere and retaining the same and with a semicircular por ti on adapted to enter the grooves of the sphere and retain the same and With pointed ends which are adapted to enter the holes in the sphere and retain the same.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the toy, and Fig. 2 is vertical sectional view of the sphere.
' The toy comprises the handle 1 which is provided at its end with a whistle'2. The
ead 3 is located at the opposite end of the handle 1 and is provided with the annular depression 4. The outer portion of the head 3 is semicircular as at '5 and terminates in the pointed extremities 6, 6. The sphere 7 is connected with. the handle 1 by means of the string 8. Said sphere is provided in its periphery with a series of annular grooves 9 which intersect each other and at the points of intersection of the said grooves the said sphere is provided with radially extending orifices or holes 10.
From the above description it is obvious that there are at least three ways of lodging the sphere 7 upon the head 3. First by tossing the ball and catching it in the annular depression 4, second, by tossing the ball and projecting the semicircular portion 5 of the head 3 into one of the grooves 9 and therebv lodging the sphere upon the head, and third, by tossing the ball and projecting one of the pointed extremities 6 into one of the apertures 10 and lodging the ball upon the head 3. In the first way above mentioned for catching the ball the head 3 must be passed under the sphere while it is in mid-air, while to lodge the ball upon the curved portion 5 or one of the pointed ends 6 of the head, the head may be presented to the ball horizontally, vertically or obliquely. Thus a variety of ways are afforded for using the toy for amusement.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A toy comprising a handle, a head attached thereto and extending in alinement thereto said head having in its side an annular depression and at its end a semicircular portion, a sphere having peripheral grooves and a string attaching said sphere to said handle.
2. A toy comprising a handle, a head attached thereto and extending in alinement therewith said head having an annular depression and a semicircular portion terminat ing in pointed ends, a sphere having peripheral grooves and apertures and a string attaching said sphere to the handle.
3. A toy comprising a handle, a head attached thereto and having a semicircular portion, a sphere having peripheral grooves and a string attaching said sphere to the handle.
4. A toy comprising a handle, a head attached thereto and having a semicircular portion, a sphere having intersecting peripheral grooves and a string attaching said sphere to the handle.
5. A toy comprising a handle, a head attached thereto and having a semicircular portion terminating in. pointed ends, a sphere having intersecting peripheral grooves with apertures located at the points of intersection of said grooves and a string attaching said sphere to the handle. 6. A toy comprising a handle, a head attached thereto and having a semicircular portion which terminates in pointed ends, a sphere having intersecting peripheral grooves and radially extending apertures located-at the points of intersection of said groove and a string connecting said sphere to the handle.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
MIGUEL PEREZ.
