W. GBBERT. PUZZLE 0R GAME DEVICE.
No. 572,701. Patented D60. 8, 1896.
WITNESSES INVENTOR 5, 4 Z' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
IVILLIAM GEBERT, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY.
PUZZLE OR GAME DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,701, dated December 8, 1896.
Application filed. June 24, 1896. Serial No. 596,743. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern} Be it known that I, WILLIAM GEBERT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State devices; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which 'comprises three separate forms of blocks, six of each of which are employed, said blocks being so formed that they may be united or placed together so as to form a perfect geometrical figure, the figure selected being that of a six-pointed star.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the figure as formed by the blocks which I employ; Fig. 2, a similar view of one of the blocks, and Figs. 3 and 4 similar views of the other blocks.
In the practice of my invention I provide three forms of blocks A, B, and D, and six blocks of each of these forms are employed.
The block A consists of two diamond-shaped portions united by a central portion a. The block B consists of two triangular portions united at their bases by a connecting portion 1), and the block D consists of two triangular portions united at their apices by a connecting portion d. These blocks may be composed of wood, metal, or any desired material, and the solution consists in so connecting or an ranging the same as to form the geometrical figure shown in Fig. 1, said figure being a representation of a six-pointed star. This solution is exceedingly difficult without a diagram, by which the arrangement is shown; but said solution may be accomplished by the exercise of care, skill, and ingenuity in arranging the blocks, and I may also furnish with each set of blocks a diagram showing the arrangement thereof in order to produce the figure.
I may also color the outer edges of the blocks or the edges or sides which are exposed or on the outer side when the figure is completed, and this would also be a guide to some extent to the method of arranging the blocks so as to form the figure, and other means maybe provided, if desirable, in order to accomplish the same result; but such features form no part of my invention, which is limited to the construction and arrangement of the block herein described and claimed.
Having fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a puzzle or game device, the combination with a plurality of blocks of three difierent styles or shapes, an equal number of each of which are employed, one set consisting of two diamond-shaped portions united by a central portion, another set consisting of triangular portions united at their ends by a connecting portion, and the third set consisting of two triangular portions united at their opposite ends by a connecting portion, as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 18th day of June, 1896.
WILLIAM GEBERT.
