To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNA LAIDLOW LEwIs, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grater-Guards, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to an improvement in a grater guarc and its novelty will be fully understood from the following description and claims, when taken in connection with the annexed drawings, and the objects of my invention are to provide a guard or shieldfor the hand when the grater is operated.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of my device. Fig. 2is a sectional view on line i B of Fig. 1. Fig. 3-is a to view.

In the drawings, 1 designates a handle 2 are side bars 3 is a thumb screw for regulating or holding article when being grated; 4 are holders one located upon the inner end of screw 3 and the other upon the lower end of one of the side bars 2 and in line with the first holder; 5 is a pin for holding handle to side bars; P, is the object held to be grated.
In practice, the article desired to be grated is placed in the position shown by P, the thumb screw, 3 causing the holder 4 on end of set screw to impinge against P, and when the hand is placed upon the handle 1, the article designated by P, is
brought in contact with a grater, not shown,-
and the article is grated in such a manner, that no injury can occur to the hand.
My device is simple, cheap in construction and operated in an easy manner.
Having described my invention, and the manner in which the same is or may be carried into operation, but what I claim and dcsire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
A grater guard consisting of side bars, a handle pivoted between said side bars at one end thereof, a screw longitudinally adjustable in one end of one of said side bars and having a holder at its inner end, and a second holder held in the other side bar opposite said first holder, substantially as described.
