Description

E. W. WARREN. Ironing-Board Clamps.
Np. 225,187. Patentd Mar-. 2, 1880.
NJHERS PHOTDMTHOGRAENER, WFSHINGTON n a NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWIN W. WARREN, OF CAMBRIDGE, NEW YORK.
lRONlNG-BOARD CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,187, dated March 2, 1880.
Application filed August 9, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN W. WARREN, of- Cambridge, in the county of Washington and State of New York, have invented cer-.
tain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Board Clamps; and I do hereby, declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of the bottom of myironingboard clamp, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in ironing-board clamps and it consists in the construction and arrangement of certain parts, as will be first fully described in the following specification, and next clearly defined in the claim.
Let A designate an ironing-board, and B a notch or mortise formed in one end thereof, for the purpose of retaining the clamping device in position on the board, as presently described, The bed-piece c of the clamping device is provided at its forward end with a block, d, which is adapted to fit into mortise B of the ironingboard, and the said block d is provided with flanges d, which fit into the rabbeted portions 0 of the table, alongside of the mortise. These said means maintain the forward end of the bed-piece 0 securely in position, while the rear. end of the same is held firmly to the under side of the ironing-board by means of a suitable screw or bolt.
' The lever or clamp-bar e is pivoted to bearings f f, and is. formed with a slot, 9, at one end, and a fiat cross-piece, h, at the other. A cam-lever, i, is loosely fitted through slot 9, so as to have play from end to end of the same, and it is formed with a concavity, Z, which insures its bearing upon the bed-piece c, and a pin or bolt, m, which acts upon the clamp-bar when the cam-lever is operated.
N is a spring secured to the bearings f, and arranged to depress that end of the clamp-bar which carries the clamping-piece h, so that the slotted end of the said clamp-bar will be maintained in contact with the pin m of the cam-lever.
In order to adjust this clamping device to tables having tops of varying thicknesses, I form a series of notches, 0, upon the clampbar, alongside of the slot, so that when the cam-lever has been shifted to the requisite position in the slot the pin will fit into the notches at such point, and hence determine the extent to which the cross-piece or jaw of the clamp-bar may be opened.
The board A is provided with elastic cushions 19, and the clamp-piece h with an elastic cushion, q, so that when the board is clamped upon the edge of a table there will be no injury to the same.
, \Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters. Patent, isy In a clamping device for securing ironingboards to table-tops, the bedpiece O and the pivoted clamp-bar 6, formed with a slot, g, notches 0, formed in the bar, and the cam-lever passed through the slot, and having the pin m adapted tofit into the notches, as herein specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
EDWIN W. WARREN.
