Description

PATENTED APR. 16, 1907.
F. SPANINGER. GARMENT SUSIBNDER 0R HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED 00T.B 1906.
5a., WASHINGTDN, n. c
UNITED STATJQESMJSEEENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND SPANINGER, OF STUTTGART, GERMANY.
GARMENT SUSPENDER OR HOLDER.
1 "1.) all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDINAND SPANlNGER, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Stuttgart, in the Kingdom of Wiirtemberg, Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Suspenders or Holders, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to garment supporting and adjusting devices, and has for its principal object to provide a device of simple construction by which the length of a garment or a portion thereof may be increased or diminished to suit the convenience of the wearer.
A further object of 'the invention isto provide a device of this type in which the parts are so constructed as to exercise a frictional grip which will support the weight of the garment while at the same time permit of ready and immediate adjustment.
With these and other objects inview, as will more fully hereinafter appear, the invention consists in certain novel features of con- 'struction and arrangement of parts herein:
after fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportions, size, and minor details of the structure may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, Figurev 1 is a front elevation of a garment supporting and adjusting device constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a view simi-' lar to Fig. 1 with the parts fully contracted.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts .throughout the several figures of the draw- Specification of Letters Patent.

prevent the complete withdrawal of the.
lower member from the intermediate frame. The device is of such construction that the helices-may frictionally grip the arms or bars d and cannot be accidentally moved by the weight of the garments, while at the same time they may be slid upon the frame d to increase or decrease the distance between the attaching-studs, and thus alter the length of the garment.
The device, while of use in connection with garments of all types, is of especial value for adjusting the length of womens skirts, and by sewing the same either inside or outside the skirt the wearer may raise or lower the hem, as desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A garment supporting and adjusting device, including a pluralityof slidably-engaging members having terminal coils which serve to bind and hold the sections in adjusted position; substantially as described.
2. In a device of the class described, end members having terminal coils and adapted for attachment to a garment, and an inter- FERDINAND SPANINGER.
