Description

N0: 849,320. A PATENTED APR. 2, 1907.
- v. w. BLANGHARD.
ATTACHMENT FOR GAS HEATING STOVBS.
AAAAAAAA ION FILED JAN. 22, 1906.
VIRGIL W. BLANOHARD, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
ATTACHMENT FOR GAS HEATING-STOVES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 2, 1907.
Application filed January 22, 1906. Serial No. 297,264.,
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, V lRGIL W. BLANCH- ARI), of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Gas Heating-Stoves; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
This invention is an improved attachment for gas heating-stoves, and may be termed a culinary implement, as it is intended to enable culinary operations to be performed upon heatingstoves, and is particularly designed for use with the gas heating-stoves such as are shown in my application for gasburners, Serial No. 297,240, filed January 22, 1906, and with stoves provided with the brackets or head-pieces, as shown in my application for top for gas and oil stoves, Serial No. 297,242, filed January 22, 1906.
The present invention comprises a detach able top plate or grid of a peculiar formation combined with certain related parts whereby said grid can be used for cooking a number of different things or heating a number of different utensils simultaneously.
The invention will be fully understood from the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, which illustrate devices embodying the same, and I refer to the claims for summaries of the parts and combinations for which protection is desired herein.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the complete device, partly broken away to show underlying parts. Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof, showing it applied to a gas heating-stove, as illustrated in my application, Serial No. 297,242, above referred to; and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the removable coverplate.
The principal member of the device is a perforated grid-plate A, whose exterior outline is preferably circular, but may conform to the cross-section of the heating-stove to which it is applied. This grid may have an annular depending flange A, to which is at tached a depending skirt-flange B, preferably made of sheet metal, which is adapted to insure the passage of a great quantity of the heated gases through the grid.
In the example shown the grid is supported upon radially-extending brackets 8, attached to the upper end of the gas heating-stove S,
which are constructed as substantially described in my application, Serial N 0. 297,242, above referred to, and when used with this stove the described flange B is particularly useful in directing the gases upwardly through the grid. The grid may also be provided on its upper side with a flange A so that an oven (not shown) may be placed upon the grid, if desired. Such an oven is shown and described in my application for ovens for gas heating-stoves, Serial No. 297,263, filed January 22, 1906. The grid is provided, as shown, with four large openings 1 2 3 4, which are adapted to suit vessels of different size which maybe placed thercover.
The openings 1 and 2 may be in alinement, opening 1 being the larger of the two, and the openings 3 and 4 are also in alinement, but 011 opposite sides of openings 1 and. 2. These openings may be spanned by braces A for the purpose of strengthening the grid. Around these openings the grid may be provided with other smaller openings for the free passage of gases, and around each opening 1, 2, 3, and 4 is an annular series of upstanding lugs a a a a, which are adapted to support vessels which may be placed over the openings, as indicated at V in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
For the purpose of enabling heat to be di rected into any one or more of these openings which it is desired to use I provide removable plate O, adapted to fit within the flange A over the upper surface of the grid, said plate being provided with openings C 0 C C", adapted to register with the openings 1 2 3 4 in the grid, over which the plate 0 can be placed, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, when cooking operations are being performed. I also provide covers D D D D for the several openings 1 2 3 4, which can be lipped thercover, as indicated in the drawings. Any one or more of these covers can be removed if it is desired to heat a vessel or vessels over one or more of the openings 1 2 3 4. If an even (not shown) or very large vessel be placed upon the grid, the plate C and covers 1) D D I) may be removed, so that the heat may be distributed uniformly against the under surface of the larger vessel. By this means a large volume of heat can be concentrated against any vessel placed on any one of the openings, so that the cooking operations can be performed quickly and expeditiously. IV hen it is not deshed to use the stove for cooking,
the grid and connected parts may be removed, and the grid may be provided with a handle A for this purpose.
This device is obviously applicable to a variety of heating-stoves, and therefore I do not wish to confine myself to its use in connection with the particular stove indicated in the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, What I therefore claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent thereon, is
1. The combination with a gas heatingstove, of a grid adapted to be placed above the outlet thereof provided with a depending skirt-flange, and with large openings, upstanding studs surrounding such openings, a cover-plate provided with large openings registering with those in the grid, and removable covers for said openings.
2. In combination with a gas heatingstove, a removable grid adapted to be placed above the outlet thereof provided with a depending heat-detaining skirt-flange, and with openings for culinary vessels upstanding studs surrounding such openings, and removable covers for said openings.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
VIRGIL W. BLANCHARD.
