GAS-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 450,278, dated April 14;, 1891.
- Application filed May 1'], 1890. Serial No. 352,242. (No model.)
To all whom. it may concern.-
Be it known that I, IVALTER S. \VRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Stoves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to gas-stoves used for cooking, baking, roasting, and broiling, and the features thereof will appear from the following description, and the claims hereto appended.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a gas-stove embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 .is a view of a'similar stove having combined with it a cabinet. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section of the stove shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section in line a b of Fig. 2.
A represents the cooking-table.
D is the top of said table, and E is the baseplate thereof.
B are the usual pot-holes, and O the lids for said pot-holes. The space between the top plate D and the base-plate E contains the several gas-burners F. Said space is inclosed by the side walls E, rising from the base-plate E to the top plate D. Said burners are supplied with gas by means of the horizontal gas-pipe G, extending along the front of the table and connecting separately with each burner by means of a pipe F. Air-bells F are combined with said burners in the usual manner to admit air to combine with the gas issuing from the burners. Said base-plate E or an addition thereto extends to the rightor left of the top plate D, so as to constitute a support for the oven 11. The interior of said oven H is divided transversely by the horizontal partition H into the roasting-oven ll and the baking-oven H. The side, rear, top,
and bottom walls of said oven II are double and inclose the spaces a.
In the upper portion of the roasting-oven I1 is located the horizontal gas-burner I, having gas-jet perforations i in its upper and lower sides. Said burner is supplied with gas by the horizontal pipe N, entering the left side of the oven from the branch pipe I, leading from the main pipe P at either the rear or front side of the stove. A hell I is applied to the pipe I to supply air to the burner I. The gas-flames from the top of the burner I cause the heating of the baking-oven, While the jets from the bottom of said burner direct their heat downward and heat the roasting and broiling oven. The products of combustion from the burner I and the gases and vapors generated by the roasting and broiling pass through the 1:)erforations a from the oven II through the interior wall of the oven II into the spaces a. A pipe G leads from the spaces a to carry away said products, gases, and vapors. An opening R extends through the right wall E of the table A into the adjacent space a. The products of combustion from the burners F pass through said opening R into the spaces a and beneath and up the side of the oven H, so that said oven is exposed to the heat of said products of combustion, and thence out through the pipe G. Thus the oven may be kept warm for the heating of cooked dishes by the products of combustion from the burners F, while said products aid the burner I in heating said oven for roasting and baking.
It will be seen that the passages a constitute a portion of the flue of the cookingstove comprising the burners F, and that said oven (as it has its own fire) is in itself a stove and is located within the flue of the cook stove. Thus we have one stove located within the fine of another stove, the fire of the former being supplemented by the heat of the products of combustion of the latter.
From the edges of the top plate D a metallic easing J may rise and cover said plate, so as to form a space over the latter, within'which the dishes being cooked are inclosed. \Vithin the upper portion of said space an opening I. extends through the outer Wall of the oven H to the adjacent space a. The vapors resulting from the cooking of the meals upon the plate D and the heated air within said space rise and pass through the opening L, space a, and pipe Gr, thus avoiding their escape into the rooms.
The plate E may be supported by legs M M,
Fig. 1, or by a cabinet M, occupying a part a or all of the space beneath said plate. Such cabinet is to be used for keeping the cooking utensils.
I claim as my invention- 1. In a gas-stove, the combination of the plates E, E, and D, burners F, located in the space inclosed by said plates E, E, and D, means for delivering gas and air to said burni ers, an oven H, located at one end of the table 1 formed by the plates D, E, and E, said oven l having spaces a in its walls and openings a 1} leading from the interior of said oven into p said spaces a, and an opening R, connecting the space occupied by the burners F with the I spaces a, a pipe G, leading from the spaces Ct, a burner located within said oven, and means I for conducting gas and air to said burner, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a gas-stove, the combination of the plates E, E, and D, burners E, located in the space inclosed by the plates E, E, and D, means for delivering gas and air to said bu rners, an oven ll, supported at one end of the plate E and having spaces ct in its walls and openings a leading from its lnterior into said spaces, and an opening R, connect ng the space occupied by the burners F with the spaces d, a pipe G, leading from the spaces a a horizontal partition extending across the ntenpr of said oven, a burner located with n said oven immediately beneath said partition, and means for conducting gas and air to 531d burner, substantially as shown and described.
in a gas-stove, the combination, with the plates E, E, and D, and the oven l-I, having in its walls the spaces at and an opening L above said plate D, and a pipe G,lead1ng from said spaces a, of a casing J for inclosing the space above said plate D, substantially as shown and described.
in testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses, this 16th day ot April. 1890.
