DAVID STUART, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN. COLLARS FOR COOKING-STONES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 176,378, dated April 18, 1876; application filed March 31, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID STUART, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Cooking Stoves or Ranges, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to provide a range or cooking-stove with a detachable pipecollar, which can be readily secured to the edge of any boiler-hole in the top of the stove, so that the stove-pipe can be readily connected to that boiler-hole which the location of the stove or range and the chimney may suggest as the most convenient.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a vertical section of the rear portion of a cooking-stove or range; Fig. 2, a plan view; and Fig. 3 a detached sectional view.
A is part of the top plate of the range; B, the rear plate; D, part of the oven; and E, the rear flue. The top plate has the usual boiler-,holes G, each hole having a recessed flange, a, for supporting the usual cover. On the rear plate B ot'the stove is cast the usual collar H for receiving the end of the stovepipe, and this collar can, when necessary, be closed by a cover plate, I. K is a detachable pipe-collarhaving a flange, m, which fits snugly on the recessed flange of any one of the boilerholes, the said flange m having two or more holes for receiving screws, and the flange a of each boiler-hole Gr in the top of the stove has threaded holes adapted to these screws, so th at the pipe-collar can be readily secured to the edge of any boiler-hole which may be most conveniently situated for receiving the stovepipe.
A detachable pi pe-collar has heretofore been arranged for attachment to the rear plate of the stove at the exit-opening; but this is objectionable, as at that point a joint cannot easily be made sufficiently secure to prevent the escape of the products of combustion as they pass through the rear flue E of the stove; hence I cast on the rear plate of the stove the usual permanent pipe-collar H, which, however, must be closed by the cover-plate I whenever the stove-pipe is attached to the removable collar K.
This collar is so constructed that when not required for use it can be inverted, as shown in Fig. 3, and placed in one of the boiler-holes, where it will be supported by the flange a, and where it will not prevent the adaptation of the usual cover to the hole.
I claim as my invention-- In a range or cook-stove having a permanent pipe-collar at the rear, the combination of a detachable pipe-collar, K, having a perforated flange, with the recessed flanges a of the boiler-holes, each of the latter having a threaded hole corresponding with the holes in the said pipe-collar, all as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DAVID STUART.
