Description

(No Model.)
J. F. MYERS.
ATTACHMENT FOR RANGES.
llllllll JOHN F. MYERS, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
ATTACHMENT FOR RANGES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 471,222, dated March 22, 1892.
Application filed August 13, 1891. Serial No. 402,521. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN F. MYERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco,in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Ranges; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of said invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it most nearly appertains to make, use, and practice the same.
My invention has relation to certain new and useful attachment for ranges, &c., which consists in the arrangement of parts and details of construction, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth in the drawings and described and pointed out in the specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment for ranges, having secured thereto an oven and broiler adapted to be secured to one end of the range and have connected thereto a series of gas-burners, thereby allowing of the ordinary range being utilized with gas or coal, or both together, thus not only securing greater cooking room, but at the same time obviating the necessity of building a coal fire within the range for the purpose of preparing a slight meal, or the annoyance of having to wait a long while for the fire to start when it is required to hastily heat water or prepare small dishes. The value and im portance of the attachment in connection with ranges will be readily apparent to those familiar with the trouble and disadvantage of building and waiting for fire to burn in arange when preparing an early breakfast.
Referring to the drawings forming a part of this specification, wherein similar letters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the entire specification and several views, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing attachment secured to an ordinary coal-range; Fig. 2, a detached view of attachment, showing oven and broiler secured thereto; Fig. 3, a detail View showing removable range-shelf with oven and broiler removed therefrom; and Fig. 4:, a sectional View on line 00 0:, Fig. 2.
The letter A is used to indicate an ordinary coal-range, which is provided with the end lugs or projections a.
The removable supporting-shelf is represented by the letter B, which is provided with the back openings 1), through which lugs a pass, thus securing or holding the shelf firmly to the range. Beneath said shelf is located the gas-burners C, the flame from which is adapted to extend through the cut-away portion 0 of the shelf.
Cooking utensils rest upon the shelf directly over the flame, so as to receive all possible heat.
Secured to and depending from shelf B are supports or arms D, to which is secured oven D. This oven may be constructed of any.
suitable material, preferably sheet-iron, provided with sheet or cast iron bottom 61, to which is secured broiler-oven E. TVithin said broiler is located burner E, and communication is made from the broiler to oven D by means of openings 01, formed in bottom of the oven, thus allowing of heat from the broiler passing into oven.
The broiler-oven is adapted to hold broiler and drip-pan E E as shown. If so desired, the oven and broiler may rest upon the shelf instead of depending therefrom.
The gas-supply pipe for the burners is shown I by letter F, which is provided with stop-cocks e for the purpose of regulating the flow of gas or flame of burner.
By constructing the shelf with depending arms the baking and broiler ovens may be allowed to fit snugly against the range without damage, which would follow in case the same had to be bolted thereto.
Inasmuch as the supporting-shelf is removably attached to the range, the whole may be .quickly detached with little or no trouble,
IOC
provided with slots engaging the said lugs, In testimony whereof I affix my signaturein burners supported by and beneath the said presence of two witnesses. shelf, hangers secured to and depending from JOHN F MYERS the shelf, a c0oking0veu secured to the hang- 5 ers, a broiler-oven supported by and below iVitnessesz the cooking-oven, and burners within the N. A. AGKER, broiler-oven. J. V. KEYS.
