I .eAs-sTovE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 758,433, dated April 26, 1904. 7
Application filed November 28,1903. Serial No. 182,433. (No model.)
To al whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD FLANNIGAIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas- Stoves, of which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in gas-stoves, andhas for its object to provide a hood to be used in connection with gas-stoves, the hood being mounted upon a removable stove-top and being provided with means for elevating and lowering the tops of pots andis to be applied. The plate 1 is provided with upturned edges 2, and isprovided at its corners with the lugs 3, in which pins 4 are mounted. Pipe-sections 5 are adapted to fitover the pins 4:. A frame 6 is provided at'its,
corners with pins 7, the lower ends of the pins 7 being adapted to-fit within the upper ends of the pipe-sections 5. Pipe-sections 8 are mounted upon the upper ends of the pins 7 and are bent inwardly, as shown in Fig. 1. The flue-pipe 9 is provided with radially-projecting pins 10, the pins 10 being adapted to fit within the inner ends of the pipe-sections 8. The sheet 11, which is preferably made of light metal, is then placed about and over the pipe-sections 8 to form a hood to prevent the escape of the fumes from the articles ble- T e frame 6 is provided with transverse bars 12, which extend above the openings 2. The pulleys 13 are mounted upon the bars 12. The
chains 14 carry the hooks 15 and extend over the pulleys 13 to eyes 16, to which the ends of the chains 14 may be fastened. The hooks 15 are adapted to engage with the lids of the cooking utensils employed, so that said lids may be raised from the utensils by means of a pullupon the chains 14.
The plate 1 is provided about the openings 2 with the upturned flanges 17, the flanges 2 and 17 preventing the escape of substances overflowing from the utensils during the operation of cooking, thus preventing the escape of such overflow into the gas-burners or upon the floor.
By means of my invention I have provided a readily-removable attachment for gas-stoves having means for conducting the fumes of cooking to a suitable place of discharge, having means for raising and lowering the lids of the vessels being used without direct handling of the same, and preventing the clogging or stopping up of the apertures in the gas-burners of the stove by overflow from the vessels being used.
In addition to the foregoing devicesI have invented a specially-constructed skillet for use in connection with my improved gas-stove,
said skillet being shown in Fig. 2, where it is indicated by the numeral 18. The base of said skillet is provided around its outer edge with the depending flange 19, which flange is adapted to fit about the upturned flange 17.
Having fully described my invention, what .I claim as new, and desire to have secured to 'me by the grant of Letters Patent, is
1. The improvement in gas-stoves, consist ing of a plate flanged about its outer edges,
and provided with circular flanged openings corresponding with the burners of the stove, vertical pipe-sections mounted at the corners of the plate, a frame provided with transverse bars and mounted upon the tops of the pipesections, a flue-pipe, and-other pipe-sections extending from the top of the frame to the base of the flue-pipe, substantially as decorresponding with the burners of the stove, vertical pipe-sections mounted at the corners of the plate, a frame provided with transverse bars and mounted upon the tops of the pipesections, a flue-pipe, other pipe-sections extending from the top of the frame to the base of the flue-pipe, pulleys mounted upon the transverse bars. chains adapted to extend over the pulleys to the outer side of the frame, and hooks mounted upon the inner ends of the chains, substantially as described.
3. The improvement in gas-stoves, consisting of a plate flanged about its outer edges and provided with circular flanged openings corresponding with the burners of the stove, a hood mounted above said plate, a flue leading from said hood, transverse bars carried by said hood, pulleys mounted upon said bars, chains running over said pulleys, said chains being adapted to connect with the covers of the cooking utensils, substantially as described.
4K. The improvement in gas-stoves, consisting of a plate flanged about its outer edges and provided with circular flanged openings corresponding with the burners of the stove, vertical sections mounted at the corners of the plate, a frame provided with transverse bars mounted upon the tops of the corner-sections, a flue pipe extending upwardly from said frame, pulleys mounted upon the transverse bars. chains running over said pulleys, cooking receptacles mounted over the burners, flanges depending from said receptacles around the upturned flanges of said' plate, and covers for said cooking receptacles, said covers being attached to the chains, substantially as described.
In testimony whereofIhave signed my name to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDWARD FLAN'NIGAIN.
