UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM H. IVIESIER, OF SAN FRANCISQO,- CALIFORNIA.
LID FOR OIL, GAS, OR VAPOR STOVESL SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,988, dated July 19, 1887.
Application fi-led March 4, 1886.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM H. WInsTnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Lids for Oil, Gas, andVapor Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to that class of lids used upon stoves in which hydrocarbons or gases are employed as a fuel; and it consists in forming a circular opening in the center of the lid and a series of radial ribs around the opening, so that the heat generated by the fuel will pass up through the opening in the lid and be distributed along the bottom of the vessel to be heated.
In the annexed drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved stove-lid. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same.
A represents my stove-lid provided with a central opening, B. Surrounding this opening and upon one side of the lid is formed a series of raised ribs, 0, arranged radially, as shown, and extending to the edge of the open ing, while the outer ends of the ribs do not extend to the periphery or edge of the lid, space being left so that the lid can be reversed and be on a plane with the top of the stove when so reversed; By this construction it will be seen that the contents of vessels or utensils placed upon my lid when the ribbed Serial No. 194,081. (No model.)
side is uppermost will be quickly heated, as the heat passing upward through the central opening will strike the center portion of the bottom of the vessel and be deflected ontwardly along the entire surface thereof.
\Vhen the smooth side of lid is up, it forms a level plane with the top of the stove, and any vessel placed thereon closes the central outward along the under side of lid to heat vessels placed on the surrounding portion of the stove-top.
It should here be observed that instead of the ribs, as shown, a series 01' upwardly-projecting studs or pins, 0, may be arranged around the annular opening of the plate.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s- I Theherciirdescribed reversible stove-lid for oil, gas, or vapor stoves, consisting ola plate formed with a central circular opening, B, and provided on one side with a radial series of ribs, G, extending from the edge of the opening B to within a short distance of the periphery of the plate, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
