Description

GEORGE E. BRINCKERHOFF, OF BROOKLYN, NEW-YORK.
Letters Patent No. 84,083, dated November 17, 1868.
IMPROVED CAI'AMENIAL SAC.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part Of the ma To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. Bmnonnnnonn, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Oatamenial Sac; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and improved mode of applying or securing India-rubber or other liquidproof catamenial sacs to the person, so that they may be worn with greater convenience and comfort than" hitherto.
The invention consists in having two India-rubber straps attached to each end of the sac, which straps extend upward, two in front, and two at therear of the wearer, the upper ends of the straps being attached to an elastic strap, which is fitted around the waist.
By this arrangement the sac may not only be properly adjusted to the person, but also retained in proper position while being worn or used.
The accompanying drawing represents a front view of my invention applied to a person.
A represents the sac, constructed of pure India rubber, made into a thin sheet, and moulded in proper form, and of a suitable size. Toeach end of the sac there are attached two India-rubber straps, B B, the straps at the front end passing up in front of the person or wearer, and having their upper ends attached to an elastic waistband, O, the straps diverging from each other, from their lower to their upper ends, so
that they will be at some distance apart where they are secured to the elastic strap.
The back or rear straps B B extend upward at the rear of the person or wearer in the same way as the front ones, as indicated by the dotted lines.
By this arrangement the straps B, while they keep the sac properly adjusted to the person, do not discommode her in any way,,and the sac may be worn with comfort and convenience.
The sac is provided with a sponge, to absorb the menstrual discharge.
Having thus described my invention,
I do not claim a cata-menial sac constructed of India rubber, for they have been previously used; but
I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A catam'cnial sac, with four elastic straps, two of which are longer than the other two, and all attached to the sac, so that the latter may be adjnsted on the body of the wearer in such manner that it,will not interfere with the performing of the ordinary functions of nature, substantially as shown and described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 25th day of June, 1868.
