To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY BRAMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaver Dam, in the county of Dodge and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Halters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in rope halters and comprises a rope which is bent upon itself to form loops, one strand of which being held at right angles to a nose-band by means of complemental plates, each made up of two sections and provided each with a curved and a straight groove, with the end of one section of the shell engaging a flange upon the other, and in the provision of a rawhide or fabric conforming to a portion of the nose-band, means beingprovided for adjusting the crown band or strand of the halter.

The invention comprises other details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved halter. Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3 3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing two of the clamping-plates disassembled Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a rope which is doubled upon itself at two locations, forming the two loops A A, which loops engage a ring B, which is held in the extreme ends of the loops by means of the clips or rings C.

D and D designate two clamping-plates, which have each a cu ved and a straight groove, (designated in the drawings by E and E,) and each of said plates D has a flange (2 along one of the marginal edges of its traight groove and again t which the straight edge of the clamping-plate D is adapted to contact, as shown clearly in the sectional view, Fig. 3, of the drawings. The two plates are adapted to be held fog ther in the manner shown, and each set of grooves when the plates are fastened together forming circular outlined openings for the reception of the two sections of the rope, one piece going through the curved grooves and the other through the straight, a shown. Suitable fastening means, such as nails F, are passed through registering apertures in the plates and sections of the rope and the ends of said nails clenched. Said curved grooves in the clamping-plates, it will be noted, will turn the rope at right angles where it passes through the plates, as shown in the drawings, and forms the crown-section of the rope K, which is adapted to pass over the crown of the head of an animal.

N designates a one-piece hollow shell, which is adjustably held upon the crownsection of the rope by means of a set-screw N, mounted in a threaded aperture in the wall of said shell N, whereby the latter may be held at different positions upon the rope. Said shell N has an eye N adapted to en gage one end of a rope O, which after being passed through said eye is held to the body portion of the rope O by means of the clamping-Wires O. Said rope O, which is adapted to pass around the throat of the animal, is folded upon itself, as at Q, forming a loop engagigng a ring P, which .is connected to the ring the folded portions of the rope O being held in such positions by means of the clamping-wires J. One end of the rope O has secured thereto a snap-hook I, which is adapted to engage an eye T in the hollow cylindrical shell T, which also is fastened to one end of the rope A by forming a loop at the end of said rope, which engages an eye T upon the shell T. The free end of the crown portion of said strap is adapted to pass through the shell T and held in an adjusted position therein by means of a setscrew W, mounted in the threaded aperture in the shell.

Mounted upon the portion of the rope A which passes over the nose of the animal and intermediate the two sets of clamping-plates is a covering of rawhide G, provided for the purpose of forming a substantial Wearingsurface as well as one which will not be harsh in contact with the surface of the skin of the animal.

From the foregoing it will be observed that by the provision of the halter as shown and described a simple and efficient means IIO is afforded whereby the device may be adjusted to fit heads of various sizes by the simple adjustment of the crown portion of the rope, which may be held in various positions within the shells, as illustrated.

What I claim is A rope halter having portions thereof bent upon themselves forming loops, a crownband and a nose-band formed out of said rope, a link connecting said loops, complemental shell-plates each having a curved and a straight groove therein, one section of each pair of shell-plates having a flange at its end, a slight shoulder at the end of one shellsection against which the other section is adapted to bear, means for holding theshell-sections together whereby portions of the rope forming the crown-band may be held at right angles to the nose-band, a fabric covering for the nose-band intermediate said shell-sections, a hollow cylindrical shell mounted upon the crown-piece and having an aperture therein, the wall of which is threaded, a screw mounted in said aperture and adapted to engage the rope, a second rope bent upon itself forming a loop, rings for holding the latter, a ring engaging the loop formed by said second rope bem bent upon itself and connected to said link, a second cylindrical shell mounted upon the crown-band, and connections between said second rope and cylindrical shell, as set forth.
