WALF RID GUSTAFSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
GARNI ENT-FASTEN ER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 6, 1906.
Application led December 20, 1905. Serial No. 292,654.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WALFRID GUs'rAFsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and 'State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment-fasteners.
The objects of the invention are to improve and simplify the construction of such devices furthermore, to increase their efliciency in operation and to decrease the eX- pense attending their manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in` the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed as a practical embodiment thereof.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a View looking at the back of one of the members of the fastener. Fig. 2 is a view looking at the front of the other member of the fastener. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the member shown in Fig. 1. Fig 4 is a perspective view of the member shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a vertical section through-the engaged members of the fastener. Fig. 6 is a plan view showing a modified construction. Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing a means of securing the fastener to tape or other material by means of integral V-shape tongues.
Like reference-numerals indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawings.
The numeral 1 indicates one member of the fastener, and the numeral 2 indicates the other member. Each of the members 1 and 2 may be formed, if desired, with stampedout angular corners 3, having perforations 4 to receive threads for securing the members upon tape or other fabric, such as 5. When the two members are secured together, as shown in Fig. 5, the stamped corners 3 hold the securing-threads of the two members gral upstanding tongue 9, the rear end of which is bent or convexed, as indicated at 10. The member 2 is also formed with a keeperguide for the knob 8, said guide consisting of an elongated depression 11. When the two members are to be secured together, the tongue 9 is fitted into the crescent-shaped opening 6 and the two plates are slid upon each other until the knob or projection 8 snaps-into the elongated depression 11, as shown in Fig. 5, whereby the two plates are securely held together. The rear end of the tongue 9 is conveXed, as indicated at 10, so as to conform to the curvature of the crescent-shaped opening 6. The depression 11 is curved and elongated, as shown in Fig. 4, so as to permit the plate 1 to swing or turn slightly on the plate 2, the knob 8 being adapted to move along the'depression 11 during' such turning movement.
As shown in Fig. 6, the plate 2 may be formed with an elongated slot-guide 11 in place of the elongated guide-depression l1, (shown in Figs. 2 and 4,) and, as shown in Fig. 7, the two members of the fastener may be secured to the tape or other material 5 by y formingv said members with integral V- shaped tongues 15, which are passed through the material and suitably clenched.
The improved fastener of this invention is strong, simple, durable, and inexpensive, as well as thoroughly eflicient in operation.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. A garment-fastener comprising two plates, one of said plates being formed with a crescent-shaped opening and a projection, and the other of said plates being formed With a tongue having its rear portion concaved, gated depression to receive the projection on ro and an elongated keeper-guide to receive the the iirst-mentioned member substantially as projection on the first-mentioned member. described.
2. A garment-fastener comprising tWo In testimony whereof I have afIiXed my members, each formed with stamped-out signature in presence of two Witnesses. corners having perforations to receive WALFRID GUSTAFSON. threads, one of said members having an Witnesses: opening and a projection, and the other of JAMES F. DUHAMEL,
said members having a tongue and an elon- H. G. HOSE.
